The cognitive impact of ChatGPT in higher education: A systematic review of critical and creative thinking outcomes
Changyue Li, Hang Cui, Linda Serra Hagedorn (2026)
Computers & Education: Artificial Intelligence 10
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: revisión bibliográfica

Temas: inteligencia artificial ChatGPT pensamiento crítico

Resumen:

Texto completo

This systematic review examines how ChatGPT influences university students' critical and creative thinking by synthesizing 67 empirical studies (2022-2025) following PRISMA guidelines. We applied a dual-lens framework distinguishing convergent (critical thinking) and divergent (creative thinking) processes. Analysis revealed that, ChatGPT supports cognitive development when embedded within inquiry-oriented and scaffolded instructional designs, especially through processes such as metacognitive regulation, argumentative reasoning, and idea generation, which in turn produce synergistic gains across both critical and creative domains. However, in unstructured contexts, researchers observed...

Resumen:

This study examined and categorized the views of students and teachers in Philippine Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and correlated those with similar patterns of views regarding ChatGPT usage. While previous studies explored ChatGPT's risks and benefits, a significant gap remains in understanding how college students and educators perceive this technology for its culturally relevant and equitable integration into teaching and learning. Using Q-Methodology, 27 participants (15 students and 12 professors) were surveyed, interviewed, and invited to rank-order 36 statements about using ChatGPT. Three factors emerged from using factor analysis: Ethical Tech Guardians, Balanced Pedagogy...

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial alfabetización en IA aprendizaje basado en proyectos

Resumen:

The use of the project-based learning (PBL) approach in developing AI literacy is widely adopted. However, student satisfaction with AI literacy courses has not been thoroughly explored. This study addresses this gap by examining the associations between students’ perceived PBL, empowerment in using AI for problem-solving, AI ethical awareness, and satisfaction with AI literacy courses. A total of 1,027 secondary and university students from 102 secondary schools and a university in Hong Kong participated in an AI literacy course, among whom 446 provided complete data for the structural equation modelling (SEM) analysis. We developed a context-grounded scale to measure students’ perceptions...

Since it was released in November 2022, ChatGPT has been exerting revolutionary influence on the realm of higher education. In order to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the research landscape, we conduct a systematic literature review on the studies of ChatGPT used in higher education. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were adopted to bibliometrically examine the included literature selected from Web of Science and Scopus through the PRISMA protocol. Tools of VOSviewer and CitNetExplorer were employed to visualize the citation information. Our findings showed that the recent two years witnessed an ever-growing popularity of this research theme. Citation information analysis...

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial educación superior alfabetización en IA

Resumen:

Texto completo

Integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the accounting professions is reshaping traditional roles and skill requirements, prompting a reassessment of how graduates are prepared for these changes. However, a significant gap exists in understanding how AI-based learning in higher education curricula influences graduates' readiness and commitment to be accountants. Addressing this gap, this study aims to answer two pivotal questions: how do AI learning experiences affect AI self-efficacy and career commitment, and how do literacy, motivations, and competency factors mediate this relationship? This study grounds in Self-determination Theory (SDT) and Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT)...

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: revisión bibliográfica

Temas: inteligencia artificial educación infantil alfabetización en IA

Resumen:

Texto completo

Artificial intelligence (AI) tools are increasingly being used in the field of early childhood education (ECE) to enhance learning and development among young children. Previous proof-of-concept studies have demonstrated that AI can effectively improve teaching and learning in ECE; however, there is a scarcity of knowledge about how these studies are conducted and how AI is used across these studies. We conducted this scoping review to evaluate, synthesize and display the latest literature on AI in ECE. This review analyzed 17 eligible studies conducted in different countries from 1995 to 2021. Although few studies on this critical issue have been found, the existing references provide up-...

Metodología: revisión bibliográfica

Temas: inteligencia artificial creencias y actitudes de los profesores profesorado

Resumen:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping educational practices, yet educators' adoption of AI varies. This paper utilized a grounded meta-analysis framework of 45 peer-reviewed articles published between 2020 and 2024, including qualitative, quantitative, mixed-method, and social media (X) studies, to examine factors influencing educators' AI adoption. Four primary categories emerged from coding the papers: Individual Factors (demographics, AI literacy, beliefs, and self-efficacy), Infrastructure (institutional support, resource availability, social influence, and media narratives), Tools (perceived usefulness, ease of use, compatibility, transparency, bias, and reliability), and...

Resumen:

Texto completo

The study on K-12 artificial intelligence (AI) education poses three challenges: ''(i) What topics in the machine learning (ML) process should be hidden from K-12 students?” '' (ii) How do you teach K-12 students the mathematical model behind the ML process?” and '' (iii) How does AI education influence the acceptance of AI technology?”. This paper addresses challenges (i) to (iii). We developed a machine learning role-playing game (ML-RPG) and had 166 participants from lower grades of elementary school to the elderly use it. Participants used ML-RPG to role-play the ML process of acquiring data, representing data with graphs, inferencing based on if-then rules, and optimizing parameters...

Towards responsible AI in education: A Delphi-AHP-based framework for evaluating educational large language models
Pingrong Lin, Qin Deng, Yanbian Zhou (2026)
Computers & Education: Artificial Intelligence 10
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial grandes modelos de lenguaje ética

Resumen:

Texto completo

As large language models (LLMs) become deeply integrated into the educational landscape, evaluation criteria focusing solely on performance are insufficient to mitigate the risks of value misalignment and socioethical concerns. To steer educational LLMs towards responsible and beneficial development, this study aims to construct a multidimensional evaluation framework grounded in educational theory. Initially, a preliminary pool of evaluation indicators was established on the basis of a review of the literature and pedagogical theories. The Delphi method was subsequently employed to refine the indicator structure by integrating opinions from 21 cross-disciplinary experts. The analytic...

The rise of Artificial Intelligence in educational contexts has sparked both excitement and trepidation, highlighting the urgent need to investigate its implications, especially in English Language Teaching. In light of this context, this study aimed to find out how English language teachers perceive the pedagogical benefits and challenges posed by ChatGPT when incorporated into ELT and identify potential avenues for such digital innovations. Adopting a qualitative research design, data were purposively collected by distributing an open-ended questionnaire to 46 English language teachers from multiple countries. This sample was solicited via the academic and research platform ResearchGate,...
