A systematic review of artificial intelligence techniques for collaborative learning over the past two decades
Seng Chee Tan, Alwyn Vwen Yen Lee, Min Lee (2022)
Computers & Education: Artificial Intelligence 3
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: revisión bibliográfica

Temas: inteligencia artificial aprendizaje colaborativo

Resumen:

Texto completo

This systematic review focuses on publications related to studies of the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for collaborative learning. The use of AI for collaborative learning is a recent phenomenon and a systematic review of such studies is lacking. Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) protocol, 41 journal articles were shortlisted. These articles were analysed in terms of the contexts of study (year, group size, platforms of interaction, and types of learners). Using a thematic approach, two broad foci and five sub-categories of use of AI for collaborative learning were identified: (1) learning outcomes – (a) collective performances,...

Resumen:

As generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) becomes widespread in education, its influence on students' academic practice raises concern. We conducted pre-registered analyses of 4820 empirical reports authored by 2000 psychology undergraduates (2016–2025) to examine how ChatGPT's launch in November 2022 may influence the style, sentiment, and quality of students' writing. Following ChatGPT's release, prevalence of ChatGPT-associated lexical markers (e.g., delve, intricate) surged until 2024, then declined in 2025, possibly due to some students actively masking GenAI traces. Writing style (indexed by lexical diversity/density/sophistication, nominalisation, readability) became increasingly...

Temas: inteligencia artificial alfabetización en IA educación primaria y secundaria

Resumen:

AI education aims to teach AI concepts, essential knowledge, and skills related to the fundamental ideas in AI. As AI becomes increasingly prevalent in our daily lives, schools and educators have started to recognize the importance of AI education in K-12 schools. However, there have been a limited number of studies reporting on the implementation of AI education in classrooms. This systematic review aimed to provide an overview of the current state of AI education in K-12 schools, exploring topics, instructional approaches, and learning outcomes. Twenty-five peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2018 and 2023 were selected for this systematic review. The findings highlighted...

Resumen:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing and revolutionizing today’s economy and work life. A basic understanding of this technology is beneficial for even non-technical roles, highlighting the interdisciplinary nature of AI and its diverse applications. However, it is difficult to create significant, practically relevant learning experiences related to AI for students of different backgrounds, especially for students outside of computer science programs. To tackle this problem, we designed and evaluated an interdisciplinary, project-based course combined with creativity methods, where students from diverse study programs worked on an everyday challenge and tried to build AI prototypes to...

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial ChatGPT expresión escrita

Resumen:

Texto completo

The present research was to bridge a research gap in comprehensively understanding students’ perceptions and experiences in utilizing ChatGPT for their writing process in English as a foreign language (EFL) context. The participants were 45 EFL learners in Macau. The study aimed to explore the potential impact of ChatGPT on writing, as well as their perceptions and experiences of ChatGPT in generating feedback for writing. A mixed-methods approach was employed, with quantitative data collected from a questionnaire and qualitative insights drawn from interviews conducted after a semester-long writing course. The findings supported the significant positive effects of AI assistance on writing...

Resumen:

Texto completo

The rise of generative AI has been a major disruptive force in academia. Academics are concerned about its impact on student learning. Students can use generative AI technologies, such as ChatGPT, to complete many academic tasks on their behalf. This could lead to poor academic outcomes as students use ChatGPT to complete assessments, rather than engaging with the learning material. One particularly vulnerable academic activity is academic writing. This paper reports the results of an active learning intervention where ChatGPT was used by students to write an academic paper. The resultant papers were then analysed and critiqued by students to highlight the weaknesses of such AI-produced...

Resumen:

Texto completo

This qualitative case study examines undergraduate students’ engagement with generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in academic learning in an English-medium university setting. This study employs self-determination theory (SDT) as the primary interpretive framework, treating technology acceptance perceptions (e.g., usefulness and ease of use) as descriptive cues rather than explanatory constructs. Data from 23 semi-structured interviews were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis, complemented by epistemic network analysis (ENA) to examine the structural relationships among themes in students’ discourse, with automated coding validated against a manually coded subset. Students...

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial evaluación tecnología educativa

Resumen:

Texto completo en HTML

In recent years, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted proctoring techniques have developed rapidly, but most are for online exams. On the contrary, this study aims to explore the AI-based visual proctoring approach through surveillance cameras in real-world offline examination rooms (usually classrooms) to assist proctoring, with contributions from three perspectives: First, to proctor in the offline examination rooms, a visual assessment system is introduced that can be applied in the majority of various classrooms for proctoring after corresponding model training. Second, the new proposed 2-Longitudinal-Stream Convolutional Neural Networks model can adequately adapt to the large-...

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Resumen:

The increasing use of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) worldwide has brought attention to tools that can assist English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners in their journey to fluency. Much research has shown that EFL learners often do not have sufficient latitude to output at a satisfactory level when writing in a second language. In addition, cognitive (working memory) resources are spent on low-level writing tasks (word production, translation) at the expense of time being allocated to higher-level writing tasks such as organization and revision. The researcher's laboratory developed an AI-based web application called “AI KAKU” to assist EFL learners in reducing the cognitive barriers...

Tailoring AI agents for early learning: The Creative Project Approach
Weipeng Yang, Hui Li, John Chi-Kin Lee (2025)

Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: trabajo teórico

Temas: inteligencia artificial educación infantil aprendizaje basado en proyectos

Resumen:

Texto completo

This paper explores the integration of AI agents within the Project Approach in early childhood education (ECE) to enhance children's creative learning in the digital age. Addressing the current lack of guidance in this area, the paper conceptualizes how AI agents can be specifically tailored to foster creativity in young learners. Drawing upon theoretical foundations and empirical evidence, it proposes a “Creative Project Approach” that integrates generative AI and robotics in ECE. A pedagogical framework is developed, consisting of five key steps: (1) identifying learning needs, (2) facilitating child-robot interaction with teacher guidance, (3) situating AI and robot use in various...
