Tipo: artículo

Metodología: revisión bibliográfica

Temas: inteligencia artificial alfabetización en IA educación primaria y secundaria

Resumen:

Texto completo

Artificial intelligence (AI) literacy education mainly targets secondary and university students, often overlooking the unique needs of younger students. This gap in AI literacy primary school education presents theoretical and pedagogical challenges. Despite the pervasive influence of AI, which can exacerbate inequalities and raise ethical challenges, primary students often lack an understanding of AI principles and mechanisms. Recent developments in age-appropriate AI learning tools have extended AI literacy to primary schools, but AI literacy frameworks for this age group remain underdeveloped. This study aims to conceptualize AI literacy by analyzing existing theoretical frameworks and...

Resumen:

With the rapid integration of generative AI (GenAI) into higher education, concerns over cognitive offloading, overreliance, and diminished critical thinking underscore an urgent need to prioritize learning-to-learn (L2L) competencies. However, the lack of a clear and detailed conceptualization of L2L, a key 21st-century skill for lifelong learning, hinders interdisciplinary research and limits the development of informed, pedagogically sound AI applications. This paper presents a scoping review of L2L definitions within pedagogical and psychological literature, based on sources retrieved from ERIC, Scopus, and Web of Science. The review follows the PRISMA-ScR framework and identifies 21...

Resumen:

The rapid integration of AI-based tools in education calls for a critical assessment of how these technologies impact student engagement. This study explores the perceived effects of AI chat tools by analyzing pre- and post-semester survey data from 724 to 642 students, respectively, across diverse disciplines and demographic groups. Initially, students reported high levels of engagement in key areas such as academic self-efficacy, autonomy, interest, and self-regulation. However, by the semester's end, all these areas showed a noticeable decline. This suggests that while AI tools offer initial benefits, their long-term effectiveness in maintaining engagement may be limited due to...

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial alfabetización en IA formación de profesores

Resumen:

Texto completo en HTML

Although the importance of K–12 artificial intelligence (AI) education grows, the lack of teacher readiness hinders the integration of AI in schools. To address this issue, this study aimed to explore South Korean elementary school teachers' experiences teaching AI curricula and examine their competencies. A survey and interviews were conducted with 67 elementary school teachers who have been working in AI-leading schools in South Korea. The results indicated that teachers were least confident in content knowledge, followed by technological knowledge and pedagogical knowledge relevant to AI. Additionally, interviews with 13 teachers revealed five themes regarding AI education: (1)...

Resumen:

There are emerging concerns about the Fairness, Accountability, Transparency, and Ethics (FATE) of educational interventions supported by the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms. One of the emerging methods for increasing trust in AI systems is to use eXplainable AI (XAI), which promotes the use of methods that produce transparent explanations and reasons for decisions AI systems make. Considering the existing literature on XAI, this paper argues that XAI in education has commonalities with the broader use of AI but also has distinctive needs. Accordingly, we first present a framework, referred to as XAI-ED, that considers six key aspects in relation to explainability for...

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial formación de profesores ética

Resumen:

Texto completo

This study investigated what pre-service teachers should learn about generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) by backtracking from anticipated classroom dilemmas to teacher-education design needs. Through qualitative interviews with 17 pre-service teachers at a Hong Kong university, the research explored perspectives on integrating AI into education, focusing on ethical concerns and pedagogical strategies. Grounded in the interpretivist paradigm, it revealed concerns about academic integrity, privacy and the challenge of maintaining essential human skills in a GenAI-driven educational environment. Although pre-service teachers recognised GenAI's potential to enhance teaching and learning...

Resumen:

The utilisation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education has been a contemporary issue attracting varied perspectives. However, the nuances among the antecedents of AI usage among postgraduate students and the acquisition of 21st-century employability skills are under-researched. This study sought to fill the chasm by adopting a concurrent integrated mixed method to collect data using a questionnaire with closed-ended and open-ended items from 294 postgraduate students in Ghana. Descriptive statistics and partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) techniques were employed for the quantitative data analyses while thematic pattern matching was used to analyse the...

Resumen:

Texto completo

This study explores the use of serious games combined with machine learning techniques to evaluate student efficiency and determine appropriate degree programs. The main research question addressed is: How can predictive machine learning algorithms, applied to soft skills data collected through serious games, identify the most suitable study path for each student, thereby improving academic orientation and enhancing the likelihood of educational success? The research involved 211 university students from a single university in Italy, focusing on the application of predictive algorithms based on participants' soft skills and academic performance (GPA). The study employs logistic regression...

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial alfabetización en IA educación primaria y secundaria

Resumen:

Texto completo

The majority of AI literacy studies have designed and developed self-reported questionnaires to assess AI learning and understanding. These studies assessed students' perceived AI capability rather than AI literacy because self-perceptions are seldom an accurate account of true measures. International assessment programs that use objective measures to assess science, mathematical, digital, and computational literacy back up this argument. Furthermore, because AI education research is still in its infancy, the current definition of AI literacy in the literature may not meet the needs of young students. Therefore, this study aims to develop and validate an AI literacy test for school students...

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial grandes modelos de lenguaje formación de profesores

Resumen:

Texto completo

This study investigates the reliability of Large Language Models (LLMs) in evaluating the quality of written lesson plans from pre-service teachers. A total of 32 lesson plans, each ranging from 60 to 100 pages, were collected during a teacher internship program for civic education pre-service teachers. Using the ChatGPT-o1 reasoning model, we compared a human expert standard with LLM coding outcomes in a two-phase explanatory sequential mixed-methods design that combined quantitative reliability testing with a qualitative follow-up analysis to interpret inter-dimensional patterns of agreement. Quantitatively, overall reliability across six qualitative components of written lessons plans (...
