Resumen:

This article proposes a framework for understanding how artificial intelligence is reshaping language practices and applied linguistics research. It identifies four areas of inquiry: AI as a research instrument, AI as an object of applied linguistic inquiry, AI as a site of conceptual renewal, and AI as a problem of pedagogy, policy and social justice. Distinguishing between predictive, classificatory, assistive and generative AI systems, the authors argue that contemporary systems now participate directly in communication-related tasks such as writing, translation and assessment, and call for a repositioning of applied linguistics within an AI-mediated paradigm.

El artículo analiza si el comportamiento sintáctico y semántico de los verbos obligatoriamente reflexivos o cuasi-reflexivos del español (como enterarse, quejarse, burlarse, acordarse, fijarse o jactarse) puede ser adquirido de forma nativa por hablantes nativos de inglés con un nivel avanzado o intermedio de español. Describe y explica los pasos para desarrollar e impartir las versiones híbrida y en línea de una clase de gramática de español de tercer año, con múltiples recursos tecnológicos (Adobe Presenter, Skype, Google Docs, la plataforma de la universidad, Jing…) para transmitir los contenidos, mantener la interacción y promover el aprendizaje activo, e incluye información detallada para crear cursos similares.

Resumen:

Ellis (2003) outlined four criteria distinguishing "tasks" from traditional grammar exercises. This study examines whether teachers were able to design tasks meeting these criteria following a year-long professional development programme on task-based language teaching (TBLT). The researcher analysed 43 tasks designed by teachers against Ellis's framework to evaluate the effectiveness of the programme, on the assumption that understanding what a task is constitutes an essential first step for successful TBLT implementation. Results showed that teachers experienced difficulties with particular dimensions of task design, and the study offers recommendations for improving professional development initiatives focused on TBLT.

This Element critically explores the notion of climate education in the humanities and how it should embrace the teaching, learning, and research of second and heritage languages (SL/HL), starting with basic language programs. Virtual exchanges (VE) are gaining popularity as an opportunity to provide learners with authentic language and intercultural experiences mediated by technology. This article presents the results of a VE project aimed at developing intercultural and digital competences among Spanish Language Teaching (SLT) learners and trainee teachers. Among the main components of the project, the design, implementation and monitoring of telecollaborative tasks constitute key elements for the success of the project. With the ongoing advancement of foreign language education in China, Spanish has gained increasing attention at the secondary level. As a pilot site for the New Gaokao reform, Shanghai implemented the National Matriculation Spanish Test (Shanghai) as an example of foreign language assessment reform. This article explores the status of Spanish as a heritage language in Sweden, a Scandinavian society with diverse multilingual communities. We offer a systematic literature review, focusing on both empirical studies and educational policies related to multilingualism and Spanish heritage language speakers (SHSs).
