Language Learner Autonomy: Some Fundamental Considerations Revisited
David Little (2007)
Innovation in Language Learning and Teaching
Detalles Cerrar ✕

Texto completo

The main aim of this study was to unravel the possible relationship between individuals’ level of autonomy as EFL learners and academic success in terms of language learning at the tertiary level. Additionally, this quantitative study focused on exploring EFL learners’ level of autonomy and also the relationship between learner autonomy and some personal factors, including gender, age, English level, and the length of English education. In order to assess the participants’ levels of autonomy, a questionnaire consisting of 66 items was administered to 267 university students, who were Turkish-speakers of English as a foreign language. The findings showed that more than half of the learners (65.2%) had a high autonomy...

Issues in Task-Based Language Teaching
Rod Ellis (2026)
Detalles Cerrar ✕

Tipo: libro

Metodología: trabajo teórico

Temas: enfoque por tareas

Resumen:

Task-based language teaching (TBLT) is now a well-established approach to teaching foreign languages which draws on theories of second language acquisition and on general educational principles. However, there remain a number of issues that need to be considered in designing and implementing TBLT in classroom settings. This book, written by a leading theorist in the field, bridges this gap by addressing the key issues which are important for its development. These issues include the difference between task-based and task-supported language teaching, the role of input tasks, how tasks engage learners, task complexity, catering for individual differences in learners and teacher-preparation for TBLT. Overall, the book provides a comprehensive account of TBLT and makes a significant contribution to the growing literature in the field....

Resumen:

Texto completo

Teaching culture in Foreign Language (FL) education has evolved from a domain focusing on the reproduction of cultural facts to a domain in which culture is seen as a dynamic concept. Persistent challenges remain concerning the implementation of Teaching Culture as a Dynamic Concept (TCDC). Teachers’ ideas concerning FL culture teaching are considered to be varied and researchers indicate culture teaching practices are not aligned with scholarship on FL culture teaching. This study aimed to gain more insight into the perceptions and practices of teachers who pioneer in TCDC. For this study we interviewed 13 FL teachers in secondary education who pioneer in TCDC. Transcripts from the interviews...

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: propuesta didáctica

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

What does it mean to write, learn to write, and teach writing in an age when students can use the latest artificial intelligence (AI) co‐authoring tools to produce entire essays without even adding an original idea or composing a single sentence? This article addresses questions of authorship and academic integrity concerning the use of AI writing assistants and the latest GPT‐3 (Generative Pre‐trained Transformer, Version 3) tools. It begins by problematizing the use of these tools, and then illustrates how students can use these tools to paraphrase, summarize, extend, and even create original texts with minimal original input, raising questions about authorship and academic integrity. The...

Autonomy in Language Teaching and Learning Process
Dilek Çakıcı (2015)
İnönü University Journal of the Faculty of Education
Detalles Cerrar ✕

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: revisión bibliográfica

Temas: aprendizaje autónomo

Resumen:

Texto completo

The concept of learner autonomy in the field of foreign language learning was clearly articulated in the 1979 report prepared by Holec for the Council of Europe. The learner autonomy aims at providing language learners with the ability to take on more responsibility for their own learning. In addition, students may make decisions by themselves about what and how they should learn. On the other hand, traditionalists assert that providing autonomy to learners will cause teachers to lose their control over the class. In this review, the concept of learner autonomy in language learning has been explained from different aspects. Afterwards, the necessary clues regarding how to support the development of...

Temas: formación de profesores

Resumen:

Outstanding original application of intersectionality to language teacher education and multilingual classrooms.

This book showcases the construct of intersectionality and how it applies to the multiple dimensions of language and multilingual teacher identities. The chapters illustrate how intersectionality affects teachers’ potential for agency and their pedagogical practices.

By highlighting intersectionality’s role in teacher education, the book seeks to understand how all forms of oppressive social practices play out in classrooms and educational contexts, and how an intersectional lens can suggest ways in which to counter these in multilingual classrooms and language teaching.

The chapters use a range of methodologies to explore theoretical, empirical...
