Previous studies demonstrate that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) dialogue systems for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education has effectively improved university students' reading, writing, and listening abilities. However, there are limited systematic reviews focused on the evidence-based interactional competence of EFL university students. This study aims to examine the use of AI dialogue systems to enhance EFL university students' interactional competence. Through the PRISMA process, this study identified 28 articles published between January 2013 and August 2022 in journals and conferences from the most popular databases, including Google Scholar, ProQuest, IEEE,...

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is prevalent in nearly every aspect of our lives. However, recent studies have found a significant amount of confusion and misunderstanding surrounding AI. To develop effective educational programs in the field of AI, it is vital to examine and understand learners' pre- and misconceptions as well as myths about AI. This study examined a corpus of 591 studies. 25 relevant studies were identified by applying the following eligibility criteria: English-written original empirical research on education and AI and reporting AI conceptions in a formal learning context. The review found studies from six continents, with the majority conducted in Europe and North...

Applications of artificial intelligence in education (AIEd) are emerging and are new to researchers and practitioners alike. Reviews of the relevant literature have not examined how AI technologies have been integrated into each of the four key educational domains of learning, teaching, assessment, and administration. The relationships between the technologies and learning outcomes for students and teachers have also been neglected. This systematic review study aims to understand the opportunities and challenges of AIEd by examining the literature from the last 10 years (2012–2021) using matrix coding and content analysis approaches. The results present the current focus of AIEd...

In recent years, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted proctoring techniques have developed rapidly, but most are for online exams. On the contrary, this study aims to explore the AI-based visual proctoring approach through surveillance cameras in real-world offline examination rooms (usually classrooms) to assist proctoring, with contributions from three perspectives: First, to proctor in the offline examination rooms, a visual assessment system is introduced that can be applied in the majority of various classrooms for proctoring after corresponding model training. Second, the new proposed 2-Longitudinal-Stream Convolutional Neural Networks model can adequately adapt to the large-...

Although the importance of K–12 artificial intelligence (AI) education grows, the lack of teacher readiness hinders the integration of AI in schools. To address this issue, this study aimed to explore South Korean elementary school teachers' experiences teaching AI curricula and examine their competencies. A survey and interviews were conducted with 67 elementary school teachers who have been working in AI-leading schools in South Korea. The results indicated that teachers were least confident in content knowledge, followed by technological knowledge and pedagogical knowledge relevant to AI. Additionally, interviews with 13 teachers revealed five themes regarding AI education: (1)...

The computer vision applications in intelligent tutoring systems (ITS) have enabled its use in various domains such as dance and sports. The adaptation in the tutoring system is based on the analysis of hand gestures, body postures, and movement. All these are termed as gross body movements (GBM). The use of these in the intelligent tutoring systems is termed as GBM-ITS in this article. There is no survey paper that considers the use of GBM-ITS in different domains. A systematic process is followed to address six review questions (RQs) by considering the 33 articles published between 2010 to 2022. A brief discussion regarding the methods adopted for analysis and the performance...

Advances in Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED) are providing teachers with a wealth of new tools and smart services to facilitate student learning. Meanwhile, growing public concern over the potentially harmful societal effects of AI has prompted the publication of a flurry of AI ethics guidelines and policy documents authored by national and international government agencies, academic consortia and industrial stakeholders. AI ethics policy guidance specific to children and K-12 education has lagged behind; this scene is swiftly changing. In this paper, we examine the ethical principles currently informing AI ethics policy development for children and K-12 education. To...

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial enseñanza en línea e híbrida analítica del aprendizaje

Resumen:

Online learning and teaching increased in 2020, driven by the COVID-19 pandemic. As many researchers attempted to understand the impact stress had on the emotional behaviours and academic performance of students, most studies explored these pre- and during-COVID behaviours in the context of brick and mortar institutions transitioning to online delivery. There is an opportunity to compare the experiences of students in the MOOC environment in this period, particularly in terms of the difference of engagement, semantics and sentiment/stress behaviours in 2019 and 2020. In this study, we use a dataset from AdelaideX between this time period to identify the most significant features...
