Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Teaching and Learning: Insights and Recommendations
U.S. Department of Education (2023)
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: guía

Metodología: informe

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

The U.S. Department of Education (Department) is committed to supporting the use of technology to improve teaching and learning and to support innovation throughout educational systems. This report addresses the clear need for sharing knowledge and developing policies for "Artificial Intelligence," a rapidly advancing class of foundational capabilities which are increasingly embedded in all types of educational technology systems and are also available to the public. We will consider "educational technology" (edtech) to include both (1) technologies specifically designed for educational use, as well as (2) general technologies that are widely used in educational settings. Recommendations in this report seek to...

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: propuesta didáctica

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

This paper provides guidance for using AI to quickly and easily implement evidence-based teaching strategies that instructors can integrate into their teaching. We discuss five teaching strategies that have proven value but are hard to implement in practice due to time and effort constraints. We show how AI can help instructors create material that supports these strategies and improve student learning. The strategies include providing multiple examples and explanations; uncovering and addressing student misconceptions; frequent low-stakes testing; assessing student learning; and distributed practice. The paper provides guidelines for how AI can support each strategy, and discusses both the promises and perils of this approach, arguing that AI may act as a “force multiplier” for instructors if implemented cautiously and thoughtfully...

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: propuesta didáctica

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Chatbots are able to produce high-quality, sophisticated text in natural language. The authors of this paper believe that AI can be used to overcome three barriers to learning in the classroom: improving transfer, breaking the illusion of explanatory depth, and training students to critically evaluate explanations. The paper provides background information and techniques on how AI can be used to overcome these barriers and includes prompts and assignments that teachers can incorporate into their teaching. The goal is to help teachers use the capabilities and drawbacks of AI to improve learning.

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

This paper examines the transformative role of Large Language Models (LLMs) in education and their potential as learning tools, despite their inherent risks and limitations. The authors propose seven approaches for utilizing AI in classrooms: AI-tutor, AI-coach, AI-mentor, AI-teammate, AI-tool, AI-simulator, and AI-student, each with distinct pedagogical benefits and risks. The aim is to help students learn with and about AI, with practical strategies designed to mitigate risks such as complacency about the AI's output, errors, and biases. These strategies promote active oversight, critical assessment of AI outputs, and complementation of AI's capabilities with the students' unique insights. By challenging students to remain...

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: revisión bibliográfica

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

This paper presents a comprehensive review of the use of Artificial Intelligence in Systematic Literature Reviews (SLRs). The study focuses on how AI techniques are applied in the semi-automation of SLRs, specifically in the screening and extraction phases. The authors examine 21 leading SLR tools using a framework that combines 23 traditional features with 11 AI features, and also analyse 11 recent tools that leverage large language models for searching the literature and assisting academic writing. The paper highlights three primary research challenges: integrating advanced AI solutions such as large language models and knowledge graphs, improving usability, and...

Education receives a revolution from artificial intelligence, which provides three key advantages through individualized learning practices, while performing administrative work, and evaluating performance with smart technologies. A review investigates the main AI applications which education utilizes with a focus on adaptive learning systems, alongside intelligent tutors, together with AI-based assessment methodology. The discussion within the paper analyzes the ethical dilemmas from AI implementation, including concerns about data confidentiality and algorithmic prejudice and dependence on human educators.

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

This study investigates the potential of AI chatbots as practice partners in the context of EFL secondary school students' self-directed learning of conversation skills. Using the Dialogflow CX Console at Google Cloud Platform, we designed two sets of AI chatbots based on two target dialogues. A total of 112 eighth-graders at a public middle school in South Korea were divided into two experimental groups: a chatbot group and a worksheet group. The two groups practiced the target dialogues in self-directed activities with chatbots or worksheets and evaluated the quality of the activities in a questionnaire. In addition, their improvements in...

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Resumen:

Texto completo

The purpose of this study is to explore students' attitudes and perceived usefulness of using ChatGPT for learning a foreign language. The authors conducted qualitative research by using a questionnaire survey based on hands-on experience by university students. The findings reveal that students are fascinated, satisfied, and stimulated to use this technology despite some of their reservations and potential threats. The authors also list pedagogical implications, including specific activities. Although ChatGPT can be very beneficial for teachers, it sets a challenging task for them to change the existing teaching approaches and assessments to boost students' cognitive,...

"Is it Okay to Use AI for This?" A Model for Values-Based Decision Making in Language Teaching and Learning
Kit Pribble (2025)
The FLTMAG
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: propuesta didáctica

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

Fixing teachers’ problems? Exploring teachers’ repair and maintenance work around generative AI technologies

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Resumen:

Texto completo

The promise that AI tools will relieve teachers of tedious tasks and liberate time for more «valuable» work with students has become a dominant narrative. However, the implementation of automated technologies raises questions around how human labour is implicated and situated in these processes. From the perspective of maintenance and repair studies we approach the often-hidden labour that teachers undertake when engaging with generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) technologies. Drawing on interviews with Swedish teachers we expose the tools' inherent limitations in teaching contexts, and highlight the pedagogical, social, and moral dimensions of educational practice. We argue that these...
