Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

In AI literacy education, there are few examples of education based on AI ethical principles, and limited knowledge exists regarding curriculum design that incorporates AI ethical principles and its effects. Therefore, in this study, we propose a curriculum that teaches the ethical use of large language models (LLM) such as ChatGPT and verify its impact on educational effectiveness and technology acceptance among students aged 12 to 24. The validation results show that the proposed curriculum particularly contributes to the understanding of LLM concepts and their ethical use in decision support. We also demonstrate that experience using ChatGPT influences the level of understanding of...

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Artificial intelligence (AI) education has posed fundamental challenges to early childhood education (ECE), including (1) why AI is necessary and appropriate for learning in the early years, (2) what is the subset of key AI ideas and concepts that can be learned by children, and (3) how to engage children in a meaningful experience that allows them to acquire these fundamental AI concepts. This report from the ECE field discusses the key considerations for developing an AI curriculum for young children. These key considerations altogether present an innovative pedagogical model for AI literacy education in early childhood. This model argues that AI literacy is an organic part of digital...

Within the framework of bilingual scenarios, learning and teaching of foreign languages are particularly important . In this paper we have  the purpose of reviewing the trends a the methodological approach that are accepted and adopted in the second language (L2) or foreign (LE) classrooms.

Resumen:

Educators are facing the challenge of redesigning curricula to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) methods in a way that is relevant and engaging to youth. Design-based research (DBR) presents a unique opportunity to conduct iterative re-design of these curricula while incorporating feedback from stakeholders including youth and professionals in the field. In this paper we present a mixed methods analysis of the iterative design of an informal science-integrated ML curriculum for high school youth enrolled in a four-week summer program. Each step of the two year DBR process was informed by input from our advisory board consisting of alumni and industry experts....

ChatGPT has quickly infiltrated the educational landscape and teachers are engaging with this tool to support their teaching activities, including lesson development. In this study, eight elementary school teachers are guided in the development of motivationally-supportive mathematics lessons using ChatGPT as a tool to support student positive mathematics emotions, motivation, and engagement as theorized within Control Value Theory (CVT). Results reveal that teachers found ChatGPT useful for this purpose and that the lessons implemented demonstrated some success in fostering motivationally-supportive math activities. Compared to non-ChatGPT lessons, in lessons developed with ChatGPT, the...

This article reports a systematic review of Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) in the field of foreign language teaching and learning with the aim of identifying tendencies in ICC research. Based on the PRISMA methodology (Urrútia & Bonfill, 2010), there was conducted an analysis of 79 research and reflection articles written between 2010 and 2022 which met all the criteria established in a search protocol. The search was developed in two phases. The first phase places emphasis on identifying various trends regarding ICC and the second one focused on the critical dimension of ICC. The analysis of all the studies lead to the identification of several challenges that could be...

AI education aims to teach AI concepts, essential knowledge, and skills related to the fundamental ideas in AI. As AI becomes increasingly prevalent in our daily lives, schools and educators have started to recognize the importance of AI education in K-12 schools. However, there have been a limited number of studies reporting on the implementation of AI education in classrooms. This systematic review aimed to provide an overview of the current state of AI education in K-12 schools, exploring topics, instructional approaches, and learning outcomes. Twenty-five peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2018 and 2023 were selected for this systematic review. The findings highlighted...

In the past decade, both the Modern Language Association (MLA) and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) called for curricular changes that better integrate languages and cultures, advocating for multidisciplinary work with the intent to broaden learners’ linguistic and cultural skills as well as regional expertise. It is in this spirit, and to engage language through content, that the authors embarked on the design of a multidisciplinary teaching module in an advanced Spanish course to explore the links between climate shocks and human migration in México and Central America. At the beginning of the article, the authors discuss the theoretical and pedagogical...

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Resumen:

Texto completo

Integrating mathematical modelling into school curricula is essential for connecting school mathematics with real-world applications. However, teachers often lack the time and resources to design high-quality modelling tasks. While generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) can rapidly produce educational content, existing tools typically generate conventional word problems or routine mathematics exercises rather than resources that foster modelling competencies. This study reports on the design and evaluation of an AI-powered platform that generates mathematical modelling problems and associated pedagogical recommendations grounded in established design principles and retrieval-augmented...

The growing presence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in society increases the exposure of children and youth to these technologies. In response, recent research introduced educational programs that foster AI knowledge and competencies, collectively comprising AI literacy. This study presents a systematic review of 23 articles published up to 2023 describing AI literacy programs for children and youth. We examined: (1) motivations for teaching AI literacy, (2) conceptualizations of AI literacy that informed program design, and (3) learning theories and pedagogical methods employed. The analysis identified five motivational themes: workforce, informed users, purposeful creators, advocacy, and...
