Resumen:
In the artificial intelligence (AI) era, secondary and university students should be able to apply AI for problem-solving. This study designed and evaluated an AI literacy programme to enhance understanding of machine learning concepts. It also examined how the conceptual understanding from two foundational courses (Courses 1 and 2) affected students' application of these concepts in the subsequent two project-based learning courses (Courses 3 and 4). The regression analysis of data from 566, 566, 470, and 196 student participants enrolled on Courses 1, 2, 3, and 4, respectively, revealed that the post-course concept tests for Courses 1 and 2 accounted for 19.9 % of the variance in the...

This study investigates the integration of Generative AI (GenAI) tools into educational practices, specifically focusing on the design of Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) lesson plans. Based on a particular IBL framework that synthesizes the core attributes of IBL by combining the strengths of various models, the study explores educators' potential utilization of GenAI tools across the framework's phases. Among other capabilities, GenAI tools were examined for their support in content creation, assessment and feedback processes, as well as in the design of learning activities and lesson plans. This examination informed the classification of GenAI tools in this study, organizing them according...

Resumen:
There is a huge and growing amount of data that is already captured in the many, diverse digital tools that support learning. Additionally, learning data is often inaccessible to teachers or served in a manner that fails to support or inform their teaching and design practice. We need systematic, learner-centred ways for teachers to design learning data that supports them. Drawing on decades of Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED) research, we show how to make use of important AIED concepts: (1) learner models; (2) Open Learner Models (OLMs); (3) scrutability and (4) Ontologies. We show how these concepts can be used in the design of OLMs, interfaces that enable a learner to see and...

Resumen:
Spanish Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) provision perfectly reflects what is happening in the kaleidoscopic European language learning landscape. Even though English is the most widely used language in this type of programme, in the course of more than two decades of implementation, CLIL has adapted to the diverse and ecological language policy of the European Union through disparate models in the different regions. Despite the differences among the various contexts, CLIL implementation has morphed into the design of language policies at school level (San Isidro & Lasagabaster, 2019), and these language policies are inextricably connected to teacher qualification,...

Resumen:
Research on smart education has predominantly focused on macro-level concepts and frameworks, such as core principles and system architectures, while offering limited guidance for discipline-specific integration and practical implementation. This study addresses two critical gaps: (1) how an M.Ed. course can be enhanced through intelligent educational technologies, and (2) whether a smart classroom teaching mode can effectively improve M.Ed. students’ instructional design competence, particularly in terms of precision and professionalism.Adopting a pedagogically oriented approach rather than an algorithmic one, this study proposes a three-dimensional framework encompassing learning...

Resumen:
Emerging research underscores the growing importance of artificial intelligence (AI) literacy for administrative staff as AI technologies continue to reshape the labor market. However, there remains a limited study about the curriculum components of AI literacy for administrative staff. This study aims to bridge this gap by designing and evaluating a professional development programme for administrative staff grounded in a four-dimensional AI literacy framework. A total of 62 administrative staff from diverse professional backgrounds participated in a 30-h course on understanding Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and its applications. Pre- and post-course conceptual tests and...

Resumen:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a ubiquitous concept and tool already found across society and an integral part of everyday life. As such, basic understanding and knowledge of AI should be a critical component of student education to foster successful global citizens. This position paper describes one possible path to address potential gaps in AI education and integrate AI across the curriculum at a traditional research university. The University of Florida (UF) is infusing AI across the curriculum and developing opportunities for student engagement within identified areas of AI literacy regardless of student discipline. The AI Across the Curriculum initiative being developed at UF...

Resumen:
This systematic review investigates learning task design for K-12 AI education, aiming to provide an overview of the status of AI education and identify trends, challenges, and opportunities. Through an analysis of 47 empirical studies, the review presents, synthesizes, and evaluates the educational theories underpinning the learning task design, the content, the pedagogies used for teaching, as well as the measurement and outcomes of the existing literature on AI education programs in K-12 settings. The principal findings reveal a diverse landscape of learning task design for teaching AI to K-12 students. Positive outcomes underscore the effectiveness of well-crafted hands-on tasks in...
