This systematic review investigates how students' over-reliance on AI dialogue systems affects their critical cognitive capabilities, including decision-making, critical thinking, and analytical reasoning. Over-reliance on AI occurs when users accept AI-generated recommendations without question, typically when individuals struggle to assess the reliability of AI or how much trust to place in its suggestions. Following PRISMA guidelines, the review evaluated 14 articles from ProQuest, IEEE Xplore, ScienceDirect and Web of Science. The findings indicate that over-reliance stemming from ethical issues of AI impacts cognitive abilities, as individuals increasingly favor fast and optimal...

Resumen:
This systematic review explores the efficacy of AI-driven chatbots in second language (L2) acquisition and examines their pedagogical implications. Synthesizing findings from 30 empirical studies published between 2020 and 2024, this review investigates the impact of chatbots use across core language skills, including speaking, writing, reading, listening, grammar, and vocabulary. Results indicate notable improvements in learners' productive and receptive skills, especially in speaking and writing, due to features such as real-time feedback, anxiety reduction, and increase practice opportunities. While reading and listening also showed positive outcomes, their development was often...

Resumen:
The integration of AI tools like ChatGPT into education has generated significant interest due to their potential to transform learning environments by providing personalized learning, automating tasks, and improving student engagement. However, gaps remain in the literature, particularly in comparing AI-supported education methods with traditional approaches and understanding ChatGPT's specific role in academic writing, literature reviews, and teacher development. This study addresses these gaps through a systematic literature review, evaluating the effectiveness of AI tools versus traditional teaching approaches. It focuses on ChatGPT's application in areas such as academic writing,...

Resumen:
This scoping review summarizes the empirical research on using chatbots to promote student motivation in learning. With a systematic analysis of 43 relevant studies published between 1966 and 2023, it addresses five aspects: underlying theories, motivational outcomes investigated, intervention designs, the relationship between chatbots and student motivation, and chatbot characteristics. Engagement, interest, and intrinsic motivation were the most investigated among 32 motivational variables. Overall, chatbot interactions positively correlated with student motivation, although sustained interest was related to prior human interactions. Chatbots generally outperformed non-chatbot conditions...

Resumen:
This chapter begins with definitions and an overview of methods used to identify learners’ strategies, then summarizes what we have learned from the large number of descriptive studies of strategies reported by language learners. Research on language learning strategies has a history of only about thirty years, and much of this history has been sporadic. The 1980s and early 1990s were a period of substantial research on language learning strategies, much of it descriptive. This period was followed by an apparent loss of interest in language learning strategies, judging by limited reported research and few related conference presentations. Recently, however, a number of new investigations have reinvigorated the field. The focus of the chapter is on the evolution of research on language learning strategy intervention studies, the issues...

Resumen:
This paper presents a comprehensive review of the use of Artificial Intelligence in Systematic Literature Reviews (SLRs). The study focuses on how AI techniques are applied in the semi-automation of SLRs, specifically in the screening and extraction phases. The authors examine 21 leading SLR tools using a framework that combines 23 traditional features with 11 AI features, and also analyse 11 recent tools that leverage large language models for searching the literature and assisting academic writing. The paper highlights three primary research challenges: integrating advanced AI solutions such as large language models and knowledge graphs, improving usability, and...

Resumen:
Education receives a revolution from artificial intelligence, which provides three key advantages through individualized learning practices, while performing administrative work, and evaluating performance with smart technologies. A review investigates the main AI applications which education utilizes with a focus on adaptive learning systems, alongside intelligent tutors, together with AI-based assessment methodology. The discussion within the paper analyzes the ethical dilemmas from AI implementation, including concerns about data confidentiality and algorithmic prejudice and dependence on human educators.

Resumen:
The use of chatbots as learning assistants is receiving increasing attention in language learning due to their ability to converse with students using natural language. Previous reviews mainly focused on only one or two narrow aspects of chatbot use in language learning. This review goes beyond merely reporting the specific types of chatbot employed in past empirical studies and examines the usefulness of chatbots in language learning, including first language learning, second language learning, and foreign language learning. We conducted a systematic search and identified 25 empirical studies, using the inductive grounded approach to identify the technological and pedagogical affordances and the challenges of using chatbots, and Garrison's social presence framework to analyze the social affordances.

Resumen:
There are obvious benefits to integrating generative AI into language learning and teaching: using AI as a language tutor, creating learning materials, or assessing learner output. However, due to how AI systems understand human language —based on a mathematical model using statistical probability— they lack the lived experience to use language with the same social awareness as humans. Additionally, there are built-in linguistic and cultural biases based on training data which is mostly in English and predominantly from Western sources. Studies have clearly shown that systems such as ChatGPT often do not produce language that is pragmatically appropriate.
