An artificial intelligence-based chatbot, ChatGPT, was launched in November 2022 and is capable of generating cohesive and informative human-like responses to user input. This rapid review of the literature aims to enrich our understanding of ChatGPT's capabilities across subject domains, how it can be used in education, and potential issues raised by researchers during the first three months of its release (i.e., December 2022 to February 2023). Este artículo examina el potencial de ChatGPT para el aprendizaje de español como segunda lengua en los niveles A1-B1 en cuanto a su capacidad tanto de descifrar el input del alumnado de estos niveles como de generar respuestas que puedan comprender los aprendientes. Para ello, y tras un breve repaso de las potencialidades y desafíos de la integración de las herramientas de generación de textos basadas en la inteligencia artificial, se describe el análisis realizado con dos corpus de interacciones con ChatGPT -compilados a partir de prompts del alumnado y de ejercicios propios de los cursos en estos niveles- y se presenta una serie de conclusiones preliminares a la implementación de ChatGPT en clase, resultante del análisis de dichos corpus, y encaminadas a fomentar el autoaprendizaje mediante ChatGPT como agente conversacional.

This working paper discusses the risks and benefits of generative AI for teachers and students in writing, literature, and language programs and makes principle-driven recommendations for how educators, administrators, and policy makers can work together to develop ethical, mission-driven policies and support broad development of critical AI literacy.

We invite you to comment on the working paper to help inform the task force's ongoing activities. We intend for this to be the first of subsequent working papers that will be developed as the task force receives feedback and identifies priorities in the coming year.

The educational impact of Generative AI (GenAI) technologies, such as ChatGPT, has received significant attention. We use the TPACK framework to discuss the types of knowledge teachers require to effectively use GenAI tools. We highlight the qualities of GenAI that make it like other digital technologies (they are protean, opaque, and unstable) as well as qualities that make it revolutionary (namely, they are generative and social).
