Fan practices involving translation open up opportunities to explore language learning practices within the fandom (Sauro, 2017). We examine how three fans capitalize on fan translation and language learning. We consider the cases of Selo (an English?Spanish translator of games), Nino (a Japanese?Catalan fansubber of anime, and Alro (an English?Spanish translator of fanfics). En este artículo se presentan los resultados de una investigación en curso, cuyo objetivo es delinear el perfil del docente de español como lengua extranjera (ELE) en línea. El análisis llevado a cabo se apoya en datos cuantitativos y cualitativos recogidos a través de un cuestionario en línea que fue distribuido mediante redes sociales (Facebook y Twitter), foros de debate y listas de distribución sobre ELE. This article examines the issue of teaching Spanish as a heritage language (SHL) focusing primarily on the issues of linguistic diversity and the socio-affective issues related to heritage language learners. First, we consider linguistic diversity in speech communities where students use SHL. Second, we discuss students? perceptions of the teaching of Spanish in a linguistically diverse setting and draw upon a corpus of interviews with 35 students attending an SHL program at a large southwestern university in the United States.
