Lexical Frequency in Heritage Speakers of Spanish: The Role of Language Exposure
Dámaris Mayans (2022)
Lenguaje
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: español como lengua de herencia

Resumen:

Texto completo

Cognitive science is an interdisciplinary field of researchers from psychology, neuroscience, linguistics, philosophy, computer science, and anthropology who seek to understand the mind. In this regular American Educator column, we consider findings from this field that are strong and clear enough to merit classroom application.

The teacher presents a strong, coherent lesson in which a set of significant facts is clearly connected to a reasonable conclusion. But, at...

Very often, students will think they understand a body of material. Believing that they know it, they stop trying to learn more. But, come test time, it turns out they really don't know the material. Can cognitive science tell us anything about why students are commonly...

Mind and Body In Space. A cognitive linguistics account for language teaching
Reyes Llopis-García (2017)
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: vídeo

Temas: lingüística cognitiva

Resumen:

Presentación en el Institut des Sciences Cognitives - Université du Québec à Montréal.

Cognitive Linguistics provides a theoretical framework to understand language as a builder of meaning that stems from interaction with the world and draws from the sensorimotor experience of all speakers. This point of view affords remarkable potential for foreign language teaching: it shows that as physical experiences are universal, so are the conceptualizations of the L1/L2 speakers who have them.

Depth of processing in L2 learning: theory, research, and pedagogy
Ronald P. Leow, Johnathan D. Mercer (2015)
Journal of Spanish Language Teaching
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: revisión bibliográfica

Temas: cognición y procesamiento

Resumen:

Both educators and researchers alike are usually confounded by the differential performances of L2 learners who are exposed to the same L2 information in the classroom setting. Current second language acquisition (SLA) research employing concurrent data elicitation procedures (e.g., think-aloud protocols to gather online data on learners' cognitive processes employed during their interaction with the L2 data) are revealing that one potential explanation may lie in how deeply L2 learners process the L2 information, usually referred to as depth of processing. Depth of processing is defined as the relative amount of cognitive effort, level of analysis, elaboration of intake together with the usage of prior knowledge, hypothesis testing and rule formation employed in encoding and decoding some grammatical or lexical item in the input (...
