Verifying student identity in oral assessments with deep speaker
Jake Renzella, Andrew Cain, Jean-Guy Schneider (2022)
Computers & Education: Artificial Intelligence

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Contract cheating, a form of academic misconduct in which students outsource assessment activities to third parties, is a topic of concern among educators. As similarity-detection systems are ineffective at detecting contract cheating, some institutions have turned to intensely criticised proctoring systems, however student and educator bodies report high costs and privacy concerns. Oral assessment is an alternative assessment approach that provides valuable interpersonal and communication skills in graduates and can naturally help detect and deter cheating. However, oral assessment is typically time-consuming, and in larger courses, it is challenging to validate respondents' identity....

Pedagogy first, technology second: Cross-level relationships between teacher professional knowledge and student learning in artificial intelligence (AI) education

Resumen:

For current K-12 AI education, understanding how teacher professional knowledge influences student learning is essential. This study employed social cognitive theory to conceptualize teachers' instructional practice and conducted a multilevel structural equation model analysis to examine the cross-level effects of teacher AI knowledge (TAIK) and pedagogical AI knowledge (TPAIK) on student AI knowledge (SAIK), perceptions of AI for social good (SAISG), and behavioral intention to learn AI (SBIAI). Data from 46 secondary school teachers and 2832 students revealed intricate mechanisms. TAIK alone was insufficient and could slightly diminish SAISG without TPAIK. Instead, TPAIK played a...

Resumen:

There is a need for teachers who are prepared to teach Artificial Intelligence (AI) across the K-12 learning contexts. Owing to the dearth of teacher education programmes on AI, it is helpful to explore factors to be considered in designing an effective AI programme for future teachers. We posit that understanding how to encourage pre-service teachers to learn AI is thus critical for practitioners and policymakers while designing effective instructional AI teacher education programmes. This exploratory study examined the perceptions of pre-service teachers and their behavioral intention to learn AI, by identifying factors that might affect learning and promoting AI in teacher preparation...

Applying psychometric methods to distinguish between human and generative AI responses to multiple-choice assessments
Alona Strugatski, Giora Alexandron (2026)
Computers & Education: Artificial Intelligence
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

The growing use of generative AI (GenAI) tools like ChatGPT raises serious concerns about academic integrity, especially in the context of assessments. While detection efforts have focused on open-ended responses, multiple-choice questions (MCQs), which are common in high-stakes testing, remain largely overlooked, partly due to their perceived detection difficulty. The present work establishes a theoretical and empirical foundation for applications of psychometric theory to separate GenAI and human responses. Specifically, it investigates whether person-fit statistics (PFS), a class of methods within Item Response Theory (IRT) used to evaluate how well an examinee’s response pattern fits...

The rapid rise of generative AI and its implications for academic integrity: Students’ perceptions and use of chatbots for assistance with assessments

Metodología: estudio empírico

Resumen:

Texto completo

The rapid adoption of generative AI tools such as ChatGPT by students has the potential to disrupt the higher education sector, with concerns being raised by academics about potential threats to academic integrity. This paper contributes to the pressing discussion about responses to AI tools by examining students' perceptions and the use of generative AI to assist them with assessments. Based on a survey among 337 Australian university students, this study found that more than a third of students have used a chatbot for assistance with an assessment, and do not necessarily perceive this as a breach of academic integrity. The study further investigated to what extent different psychosocial...

Temas: aspecto

Resumen:

Texto completo

Computers & Education: Artificial Intelligence
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming education by enabling the creation of innovative learning resources that may cater to diverse learning needs. Students with common forms of neurodiversity, such as ADHD, often face unique challenges in higher education that are not adequately addressed by current educational resources. One potentially helpful resource is audio content, which provides a flexible and accessible supplement to traditional educational materials. While audio content, such as podcasts, is widely popular, its effect on academic achievement remains underexplored. This pre-registered randomized controlled trial investigated the impact of AI-assisted audio-learning modules...

Emerging research underscores the growing importance of artificial intelligence (AI) literacy for administrative staff as AI technologies continue to reshape the labor market. However, there remains a limited study about the curriculum components of AI literacy for administrative staff. This study aims to bridge this gap by designing and evaluating a professional development programme for administrative staff grounded in a four-dimensional AI literacy framework. A total of 62 administrative staff from diverse professional backgrounds participated in a 30-h course on understanding Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and its applications. Pre- and post-course conceptual tests and...

Level-specific feedback generation for scene descriptions via fine-tuning multimodal large language models
ZhiWei Xie, Tse-Tin Chan, Philip L.H. Yu (2025)
Computers & Education: Artificial Intelligence
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

Scene description tasks effectively enhance students' English writing skills in contextual settings, facilitating the establishment of authentic situational connections. However, evaluating descriptive quality and providing accurate, level-appropriate feedback present significant challenges. Although Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) have demonstrated strong capabilities in vision-language tasks, their generated feedback for scene description tasks often remains generic. It fails to account for students' educational stages. To address this limitation, we construct a novel level-specific feedback dataset for scene description tasks. This dataset is constructed using GPT-4o with...
