Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

Despite the growing global adoption of AI-powered academic advice, its impact remains underexplored. This study addresses this gap by evaluating the academic performance of at-risk students who receive AI-driven joint support. We proposed a practical framework for assessing academic outcomes by leveraging AI as a decision-making tool for advisors. Our study employs a quasi-experimental difference-in-differences (DID) methodology over three semesters. We compare the academic outcomes of at-risk students in pilot departments who received the intervention (treatment group, N = 516) with all other students in the analytic sample (control group, N = 12,004), supplemented with robustness checks....

Resumen:

Statement of problem: The students’ academic performance is influenced by a complex interplay among several factors. Traditional educational approaches often struggle to accommodate the diverse needs of students, leading to suboptimal learning outcomes. Purpose: This article aims to comprehensively understand the role of study strategies and learning disabilities in shaping academic performance. Through the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, the purpose is to propose a decision support system (DSS) for recommendations to improve the educational approach. Method: To identify features with higher explanatory power based on empirical data, we employed an artificial neural...

Metodología: estudio empírico

Resumen:

Texto completo

For current K-12 AI education, understanding how teacher professional knowledge influences student learning is essential. This study employed social cognitive theory to conceptualize teachers' instructional practice and conducted a multilevel structural equation model analysis to examine the cross-level effects of teacher AI knowledge (TAIK) and pedagogical AI knowledge (TPAIK) on student AI knowledge (SAIK), perceptions of AI for social good (SAISG), and behavioral intention to learn AI (SBIAI). Data from 46 secondary school teachers and 2832 students revealed intricate mechanisms. TAIK alone was insufficient and could slightly diminish SAISG without TPAIK. Instead, TPAIK played a...

The objective of this work is to comment on Emilio Ceruti's article on linguistic games and the collaborative use of IT, in particular the possibility of incorporating this type of research within that called "game studies", and the relation between this type of research and the concepts of gamification in...

Resumen:

Texto completo

The rapid development of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools (e.g. ChatGPT) has elicited mixed reactions among English language instructors and learners. This study explores how first-year students in an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course at a Hong Kong university perceive GenAI and traditional grammar-checking tools (e.g. Grammarly, MS Word). We employed a qualitative methodology grounded in the interpretivist paradigm, conducting semi-structured interviews with 14 students. The findings revealed the students perceived GenAI tools to be more comprehensive and authoritative, as they provide detailed explanations and contextual insights that enhance language proficiency...

Chat as learning: Student–AI conversations as discipline-associated cognitive engagement patterns

Resumen:

Texto completo

Generative AI teaching assistants are increasingly adopted in higher education, yet debates persist over whether student–AI conversations engage students in genuine cognitive processes or function primarily as information retrieval. We propose “Chat as Learning,” a measurement paradigm that treats student prompts as observable externalisations of in-progress learning cognition, complementing outcome-based assessment with a process-level signal aggregable at population, course, and student scales. We adopt the term learning to denote the paradigm’s theoretical positioning; the present study measures cognitive demand reflected in students’ prompts, classified via Bloom’s Taxonomy, rather than...

Assessing how accurately large language models encode and apply the common European framework of reference for languages
Luca Benedetto, Gabrielle Gaudeau, Andrew Caines (2025)

Metodología: estudio empírico

Resumen:

Texto completo

Large Language Models (LLMs) can have a transformative effect on a variety of domains, including education, and it is therefore pressing to understand whether these models have knowledge of – or, in other words, how they have encoded – the specific pedagogical requirements of different educational domains, and whether they use this when performing educational tasks. In this work, we propose an approach to evaluate the knowledge – or encoding – that the LLMs have of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), and use it to evaluate five modern LLMs. Our study shows that the suite of tasks we propose is quite challenging for all the LLMs, and they often provide results...

Spanish is one of the most widely spoken and learnt languages worldwide. Spanish teaching in Africa has been relevant in Francophone countries and the Magreb. In the Southern region of Africa, Madagascar and South Africa are the two countries with the higher number of learners. In South Africa, although students in higher education are motivated to learn Spanish, the implementation of language policies and the current Spanish language curriculum in South African universities have largely set back the number of enrolments in recent years. In this paper, we examine the current situation of Spanish studies in higher education institutions in South Africa, focusing on the cases of the...

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: revisión bibliográfica

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

The potential of AI technology to transform human life, well-being, and daily work is faced with numerous risks and challenges yet to be fully accounted for. However, the complexity of AI ethics makes it hard to pin down what to teach, how to teach it, and how to assess its effectiveness. Drawing on an educational perspective, this paper presents a systematic literature review and qualitative analysis of the early years of AI ethics education as a formalized field to analyze whether its future trajectory is aligned with educational best practices. Our review highlights core challenges in AI ethics education and the content, assessment, and pedagogy used in real interventions over recent...
