Preferred scaffolding does not lead to better learning performance: Empirical evidence from AI-supported mathematical modelling
Wangda Zhu, Yin Yang, Yuqin Yang (2026)
Computers & Education: Artificial Intelligence
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

Mathematical modelling (MM) is widely recognized as a key competency for addressing complex real-world problems, which requires learners to engage in higher-order processes such as abstraction, representation, and iterative reasoning. However, students often experience difficulties in coordinating these processes within mathematics modelling tasks. While recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) offer new possibilities for supporting mathematical modelling, limited research has examined how different forms of AI-mediated interaction shape students' learning processes in MM. To address this gap, the present study investigates five AI interaction roles, Tutor, Teaching Assistant, Peer,...

The application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in education is increasingly recognized as a key driver of educational innovation. While extensive literature exists on the integration of AI technologies in educational settings, less emphasis has been placed on the critical role of teachers and their professional development needs. This study systematically reviews research conducted between 2015 and 2024 on teachers' use of AI technology in their teaching and professional development, focusing on the relationship between the supply of professional development opportunities and the demand for AI integration among teachers. Using PRISMA principles and protocols, this review...

Background: Peer influence is a significant determinant in shaping students' academic performance, yet it is often overlooked in traditional educational strategies. The ability to analyze peer influence and collaboration is an important piece in personalizing student educational experiences. Objective: This study aims to investigate how peer interactions can be used to predict students' achievement levels and create clusters based on these predictions. Building on these clusters, a novel AI-driven approach is introduced to personalize the learning experiences for each group, providing content aligned with students' predicted achievement levels and ensuring that students receive the right...

Resumen:

Mobile internet, cloud computing, big data technologies, and significant breakthroughs in Artificial Intelligence (AI) have all transformed education. In recent years, there has been an emergence of more advanced AI-enabled learning systems, which are gaining traction due to their ability to deliver learning content and adapt to the individual needs of students. Yet, even though these contemporary learning systems are useful educational platforms that meet students’ needs, there is still a low number of implemented systems designed to address the concerns and problems faced by many students. Based on this perspective, a systematic mapping of the literature on AI-enabled adaptive learning...

Resumen:

The traditional “one size fits all” education system has been largely criticized in recent years on the ground of its lacking the capacity to meet individual student needs. Global education systems are leaning towards a more personalized, student-centered approach. Innovations like Big Data, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have given the modern-day technology to accommodate the distinctive features of human beings - smart machines and computers have been built to understand individual-specific needs. This opens an avenue for “personalization” in the education sector. From, mushrooming of Education Technology (EdTech) start-ups to government funding in AI research, it is...

AI literacy development in middle school: Profiles and demographic predictors from an ABCE perspective
Zheng Liang Sun, Yau Yu Chan (2025)
Computers & Education: Artificial Intelligence
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

This study examines artificial intelligence (AI) literacy among middle school students through the lens of the ABCE framework, which encompasses Affective, Behavioral, Cognitive, and Ethical dimensions. Using a sample of 1669 students from Shanghai, China, the research validates the AI Literacy Questionnaire (AILQ) as a robust psychometric tool for assessing these four domains. Latent profile analysis identified four distinct AI literacy profiles, Poor, Moderate, Good, and Excellent, revealing that 72.3 % of students achieved high literacy levels (Good or Excellent), while 27.7 % remained in lower proficiency groups (Poor or Moderate). Key demographic findings highlight the role of gender...

Resumen:

Texto completo

The aim of this paper is to investigate the ethical and responsible use of AI chatbots in education in support of critical thinking, cognitive flexibility and self-regulation in terms of their potential to enhance and motivate teaching and learning in contemporary education environments. AI chatbots such as ChatGPT by OpenAI appear to be improving in conversational and other capabilities and this paper explores such advances using version 4. Based on a review of the research literature, a conceptual framework is formulated for responsible use of AI chatbots in education supporting cognitive flexibility in AI-rich learning environments. The framework is then operationalized for use in this...

Artificial intelligence literacy at school: A systematic review with a focus on psychological foundations
Shuyan Feng, Astrid Carolus (2026)
Computers & Education: Artificial Intelligence
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: revisión bibliográfica

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is significantly changing school education. The increasing prevalence of AI calls for a framework of AI-related literacy specifically tailored to the educational context. A growing body of research has attempted to conceptualise AI literacy (AIL) from different disciplinary perspectives and with different foci. This systematic review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of definitions and psychological dimensions of AIL in school education by addressing the following questions: how is AIL defined and conceptualised, what are the dimensions of AIL, and what psychological dimensions are included. A total of 2642 records were identified from various databases,...

Investigating algorithmic bias in student progress monitoring
Jamiu Adekunle Idowu, Adriano Soares Koshiyama, Philip Treleaven (2024)
Computers & Education: Artificial Intelligence
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

This research investigates bias in AI algorithms used for monitoring student progress, specifically focusing on bias related to age, disability, and gender. The study is motivated by incidents such as the UK A-level grading controversy, which demonstrated the real-world implications of biased algorithms. Using the Open University Learning Analytics Dataset, the research evaluates fairness with metrics like ABROCA, Average Odds Difference, and Equality of Opportunity Difference. The analysis is structured into three experiments. The first experiment examines fairness as an attribute of the data sources and reveals that institutional data is the primary contributor to model discrimination,...

Generative AI (GenAI) as a mindtool that supports generative learning (GL)
Nada Dabbagh, Helen Fake (2026)
Computers & Education: Artificial Intelligence
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: trabajo teórico

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

Grounded in the learning sciences, Generative Learning (GL), is a learning method or process that encourages students to actively generate information and make connections between new and existing knowledge. This active participation in the learning process promotes a deeper understanding of the instructional material, fosters long-term retention of knowledge, and cultivates critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities. The magic lies in the “generation” process, where learners actively make sense of the material rather than passively receiving information. In this paper, we argue that Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) can be used as a Mindtool (knowledge representation...
