Resumen:

The utilisation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education has been a contemporary issue attracting varied perspectives. However, the nuances among the antecedents of AI usage among postgraduate students and the acquisition of 21st-century employability skills are under-researched. This study sought to fill the chasm by adopting a concurrent integrated mixed method to collect data using a questionnaire with closed-ended and open-ended items from 294 postgraduate students in Ghana. Descriptive statistics and partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) techniques were employed for the quantitative data analyses while thematic pattern matching was used to analyse the...

Resumen:

Texto completo

This study explores strategic approaches for integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into K–12 education to prepare learners for the AI era. It addresses two critical questions: 1) What are the key components of AI competency frameworks identified in current research? 2) What framework can guide the effective, responsible integration of AI in K–12 while prioritising human values? We conducted a scoping review of 54 studies, identifying three core student competencies: foundational AI knowledge, practical and cognitive skills of using AI, and ethical awareness. However, existing frameworks place limited emphasis on developing human values. Consequently, we propose a three-component...

Resumen:

The rapid adoption of generative AI tools such as ChatGPT by students has the potential to disrupt the higher education sector, with concerns being raised by academics about potential threats to academic integrity. This paper contributes to the pressing discussion about responses to AI tools by examining students' perceptions and the use of generative AI to assist them with assessments. Based on a survey among 337 Australian university students, this study found that more than a third of students have used a chatbot for assistance with an assessment, and do not necessarily perceive this as a breach of academic integrity. The study further investigated to what extent different psychosocial...

Large language models have not only captivated the public imagination but have also sparked a profound rethinking of how we learn. In the third year following the breakthrough launch of ChatGPT, everyday informal learning has been transformed as these novel tools become easily and widely available. Who is embracing LLMs for self-directed learning, and who remains hesitant? What are their reasons for adoption or avoidance? What learning patterns emerge with this novel technological landscape? We present an in-depth analysis from a large-scale survey of 776 German participants, showcasing that 88% of our respondents already incorporate LLMs into their everyday learning routines for a wide...

Resumen:

The present study develops an integrative framework that investigates the relationship between the acceptability of ChatGPT among business students and their attitude, intention to adopt, and performance. This is achieved by examining the moderating role of business students' moral values and religious ethics. Using data collected from 312 university business students in Oman, we show that perceived usefulness (PU), perceived ease of use (PEOU), and perceived convenience (PC) have a positive effect on their attitudes toward ChatGPT. Business students' attitudes toward ChatGPT have a strong positive influence on their adoption intentions. Notably, university business students’ ChatGPT...

This study seeks to understand the effects of a personalized learning platform, which applied an open learner model with self-regulation and AI-enabled data visualization features, on students' self-regulated learning strategies used and behavioral patterns during their self-directed online learning process. Results were based on a self-regulated learning scale and a prior knowledge test from 182 university students and supplemented with students' system logs to understand their behavioral patterns while interacting with the personalized learning platform. It showed that the combined self-regulation and data visualization features (dual features) improve student performance via self...

Resumen:

Integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into educational assessments represents a paradigm shift, especially in STEM subjects such as chemistry, which require complex problem-solving and written feedback. This study focuses on the effects of fine-tuning on each of the four AI models—Gemini 1.5, Gemini 1.0, BERT, and XLNet—and their performance on chemistry tasks. The models were implemented using three evaluation methods: Seq2Seq for Sodium Reaction Grading, a Regression Task for Overall Grading, and Attention-Based Grading for Key Steps Grading. The fine-tuning process significantly improved the models' accuracy, precision, and stability. Gemini 1.5 outperformed the other models across...

Emerging discussions have boomed in relation to recent trends and applications of generative artificial intelligence in education, but few attention were paid to AI chatbots in terms of critical thinking ability and second language (L2) writing self-efficacy. To address such research gap, this study aims to delve into effectiveness of AI chatbot-integrated writing tasks on critical thinking ability and writing self-efficacy among vocational college students. Followed the quasi-experiment design, this study recruited 80 first-year vocational college students from two intact class. Throughout seven-week's instruction, quantitative data were collected with pre- and post-questionnaires of...

Resumen:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications for education are being developed at an increasing pace. It seems reasonable to assume that these applications would enhance student experiences and course satisfaction, and that therefore educational institutions should invest in these technologies to enhance their student offer. However, this should be tested empirically. In the current study a gender-balanced sample of 302 UK students rated course satisfaction, completed the General Attitudes towards AI Scale (GAAIS), comfortableness with AI educational applications, and course satisfaction if AI educational applications were adopted. Although students were, on average, moderately comfortable...

Detalles Cerrar โœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: revisión bibliográfica

Although affective states play a crucial role in education, they are often difficult to communicate and observe in online learning environments. This challenge has led to growing research on systems that can automatically detect affective states. This systematic literature review used PRISMA to analyze 96 studies on affective computing in online higher education, published between 2019 and 2024. The findings show that the most frequently studied affective states include learning-centered states, such as engagement, confusion, frustration, sentiment, as well as basic emotions, such as happiness, anger, sadness, surprise, and fear. Terminology often overlaps, and basic emotions are commonly...
