Developing and Validating a University Language Teacher Belief Scale for AI-Assisted Instruction
Xiaochen Wang, Yang Gao, Barry Lee Reynolds (2026)
Language Teaching Research
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Teachers’ beliefs play a critical role in shaping how AI tools are interpreted and used in instruction, yet these beliefs have rarely been systematically assessed in university language teaching. This study aims to develop and validate a measurement instrument for assessing teachers’ beliefs about AI-assisted instruction, grounded in the Intelligent-Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge framework. A sequential, two-wave quantitative design was employed, with data from 508 teachers used for exploratory factor analysis (EFA), followed by confirmatory validation using an independent sample of 487 teachers. Data analyses were conducted using SPSS for EFA, AMOS for confirmatory factor analysis and Mplus for measurement invariance testing. The results supported a reliable five-factor belief structure: AI knowledge beliefs, AI...

Motivation and self-regulated strategy use: Relationships to primary school students’ English writing in Hong Kong
Barry Bai, Wenjuan Guo (2021)
Language Teaching Research
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: motivación

Resumen:

This study was to examine the individual differences in primary school students’ motivation (i.e. growth mindset, self-efficacy, and interest), self-regulated learning strategy use in English writing and the relationships between motivation, strategy use and English writing competence. Participants were 523 4th grade primary school students in Hong Kong. Although the findings showed a general pattern that the high achievers reported higher levels of motivation (i.e. growth mindset, self-efficacy, and interest) and self-regulated learning (SRL) strategy use than the average achievers, who in turn outperformed the low achievers, all the students showed quite a low level of interest in English writing. Interestingly, motivation impacted SRL strategy use very differently for students of different writing competence groups on the whole....

Language Teaching Research
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: factores afectivos

Resumen:

The present study sought to understand the nature and level of foreign language (FL) anxiety among primary school students and the relationship between FL anxiety and FL achievement. Changes in FL anxiety across groups of three primary school years were also examined. A total of 631 (324 male, 307 female) primary school students aged 9–11 years completed the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) that measured students’ FL anxiety. Our participants’ FL achievements as measured by low-stakes regular assessments and high-stakes formal examinations were also collected. On average, primary school students reported levels of FL anxiety comparable to those of adults observed in previous studies. Factor analysis on FLCAS generated four components of FL anxiety: communication apprehension, fear of negative evaluation, test anxiety...

A self-regulation perspective on L2 grit development and its impact on language achievement
Hitoshi Mikami, Tadashi Shiozawa (2024)
Language Teaching Research
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: diferencias individuales

Resumen:

Texto completo

Evidence from recent studies has shown that sustained perseverance and passion for long-term goals in the domain of second language (L2) learning – a personality trait called L2 grit – is associated with various aspects of language learning, including positive psychological attributes (e.g. motivation, beliefs, and emotions), actions (e.g. learning efforts and strategy use), and achievement (e.g. course and task performance). Meanwhile, relatively little has been written about the mechanism through which such relationships emerge. Expanding upon L2 grit’s association with self-regulated learning (SRL) behaviors and SRL-related psychological variables, this study explores the development of L2...

Language Teaching Research
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: enseñanza/aprendizaje de lenguas

Resumen:

This study investigated the influence of using machine translation (MT) for second language (L2) writing on the subsequent L2 writing produced without the use of MT. A total of 130 Korean university learners of L2 English at three proficiency levels generated English essays without utilizing MT during the first and last classes of a general English course. Between these two occasions of writing, they wrote in English employing MT on four occasions. The first and final essays were compared via syntactic complexity, accuracy, lexical complexity, and fluency (CALF) measures. The learners were also asked about their attitudes toward and use of MT. The results indicated that MT use affected L2 writing differently according to proficiency levels. The advanced learners and the low-intermediate learners, who represented the lowest-level...

Language Teaching Research
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: enseñanza/aprendizaje de vocabulario

Resumen:

Texto completo

This study examined the effects of involvement load-based tasks on vocabulary learning in a foreign language, as well as the extent to which task effects are predicted by learners’ metacognition (i.e. metacognitive knowledge and regulation). A total of 120 Chinese university students of English as a foreign language (EFL) were randomly assigned to four task conditions: (1) reading; (2) reading + gap-fill; (3) reading + writing; and (4) reading + writing with the use of a digital dictionary. The Vocabulary Knowledge Scale was adapted to measure condition effects. The Metacognitive Awareness Inventory was used to examine learners’ metacognitive knowledge and regulation. Results revealed that the...

Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: adquisición de segundas lenguas

Resumen:

Texto completo

Exploring the role of individual psychological and work-related contextual factors in language teachers' well-being
Julia Goetze (2025)
Language Teaching Research
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: profesorado

Resumen:

This survey study explored the role of three psychological individual factors (trait emotional intelligence, emotion regulation style, and emotion regulation difficulty), one work-related individual factor (teaching experience), and one work-related contextual factor (class size) in different facets of language teachers' well-being. To capture well-being, a sample of 254 language teachers completed the Workplace PERMA Profiler and the Psychological Well-Being Scale. Before data were analyzed via regression analysis, the psychometric properties of both well-being instruments were evaluated through confirmatory factor analysis. Results showed that the instruments measured theoretically related albeit distinct constructs and that the originally theorized factor structures of the adopted well-being models could not be replicated with...

Círculo de lingüística aplicada a la comunicación
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: profesorado

Resumen:

Texto completo
