Resumen:

Artificial intelligence (AI) teaching is becoming an increasingly popular topic among educators and researchers, but the research on AI curriculum for K-12 classrooms was under-explored. Currently, most studies examine the curriculum content of the United States and the European countries. However, there has been limited research on AI learning design and activities in the Asia-Pacific region. This meta-review examined 14 research papers on AI curriculum for K-12 classrooms that were taken in the Asia-Pacific region from 2018 to 2021 by identifying the content knowledge, tools, platforms, activities, theories and models, assessment methods, and learning outcomes of the selected studies. The...

Resumen:

While AI-based educational technologies offer many features designed to support learning, it remains unclear which specific components actually contribute to improved student outcomes. Identifying these active ingredients—the subset of an intervention's core components that are demonstrably associated with learning gains—is essential. Yet, evidence from experimental studies remains limited. To address this gap, we conducted a secondary analysis of data from the treatment group of a randomized controlled trial involving 902 middle school students across three U.S. school districts who used MI Write, an automated writing evaluation (AWE) system. Drawing on implementation science, we examined...

Artificial Intelligence has greatly revolutionized education in many aspects. Today, AI-enabled language models, such as ChatGPT, are gaining popularity due to their characteristics and benefits. However, users also consider them a threat to educational integrity and purposes. This research examined ChatGPT usage among students in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), their views, concerns, and perceived ethics. The data was gathered from 388 students from two universities in Al Ain city using Yamane's formula. Findings showed that students consider ChatGPT a revolutionary technology that helps students in many ways. The gathered data showed that the effect of ChatGPT Usage remained significant...

Resumen:

As AI has become an integral part in current teaching and learning practices, educators' capacities to use AI technologies effectively and responsibly are closely tied to the quality of instruction and student learning outcomes. To provide a comprehensive examination for cultivating the relevant capacities, this study conducted a systematic literature review about AI literacy for educators. Informed by Bloom's Taxonomy, we investigated the existing research with a layered progression structure from five dimensions: definitions of educators' AI literacy, fundamental knowledge for understanding of AI, AI educational practices, educators' perspectives of AI applications, and pedagogies of...

This systematic review aims to explore published research on the use of ChatGPT in language learning between November 2022 and November 2023, outlining the types of papers, methodologies adopted, publishing journals, major research trends, topics of interest, and existing gaps demanding attention. The PRISMA framework was utilized to capture the latest published articles, selecting 36 articles that met the inclusion criteria. Findings extracted from this review include (1) authors worldwide contribute to this topic, with Asia and North America leading; (2) the wide distribution across various journals underscores the interdisciplinary nature of this research topic, such as computer science...

Resumen:

Drawing on expectation confirmation theory (ECT), this study explores the factors that impact Human-Artificial Intelligence (AI) collaboration and investigates the effect of students' distrust towards GenAI. An online survey was administered to students in higher education using GenAI (N = 245). This study found positive and significant relationships between effort expectation and performance expectation, as predicted by ECT, with positive confirmation of GenAI collaboration significantly influencing intentions and positively impacting student behavior. This study further revealed that GenAI distrust negatively moderates the relationships between (1) effort expectation and performance...

Resumen:

“AI ethics” has become a popular term for signaling concerns with the development and application of artificial intelligence, and a hot-button issue in both academic and public discourse. The current work tends to center adult-oriented, adult-generated, and issues-based conceptions of ethics. This paper reports on an alternative model for “doing ethics” via co-design with young people, highlighting the need for students to engage in AI ethics work, especially as AI is increasingly used in their education and social lives. In particular, we focus on developing a rights-based approach, using the White House Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights as a starting point for redesigning core AI ethics...

Learning theories have historically changed when the conditions of learning evolved. Generative and agentic AI create a new condition by allowing learners to delegate explanation, writing, problem solving, and other cognitive work to systems that can generate, recommend, and sometimes act on the learner’s behalf. This creates a fundamental challenge for learning theory: successful performance can no longer be assumed to indicate learning. Learners may complete tasks effectively with AI support while developing less understanding, weaker judgment, and limited transferable capability. We argue that this problem is not fully captured by existing learning theories. Behaviourism, cognitivism,...

Resumen:

Retaining learner engagement is a major challenge in online learning environments, which is even more intensified with learning spaces increasingly built by combining resources from multiple independent sources. Narrative-centric learning experience has been found to improve learner engagement by several researchers. Towards this end, we propose an AI-based approach that generates auxiliary learning content called narrative fragments which are interspersed into the learning pathways to create interactive learning narratives. The proposed approach consists of the automatic generation of two types of narrative fragments– overviews of the learning pathway segments and reflection...

Resumen:

Collaborative problem solving (CPS) encourages children to communicate effectively and fosters creativity and critical thinking. New digital technologies can potentially provide opportunities for innovative ways to promote CPS at an early age. However, one key challenge of such technologies is to be engaging and effective while also pedagogically adapting to developmental needs of young learners. In this paper, we propose that a multimodal conversational AI system, Kid Space, providing interactive learning experiences could enrich CPS and promote positive educational outcomes. Kid Space combines multimodal classroom sensing with a projected 3D virtual environment and an animated...
