What the "good language learner" can teach us
Joan Rubin (1975)
TESOL Quarterly

The role of consciousness in second language learning
Richard W. Schmidt (1990)
Applied Linguistics

Simple Checklists to Verify the Accuracy of AI-Generated Research Summaries
George Veletsianos (2025)
TechTrends
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: trabajo teórico

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

Exploring the potential of ChatGPT for foreign language education at the university level
Blanka Klimova, Marcel Pikhart, Liqaa Habeb Al-Abaydi (2024)
Frontiers in Psychology
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

The purpose of this study is to explore students' attitudes and perceived usefulness of using ChatGPT for learning a foreign language. The authors conducted qualitative research by using a questionnaire survey based on hands-on experience by university students. The findings reveal that students are fascinated, satisfied, and stimulated to use this technology despite some of their reservations and potential threats. The authors also list pedagogical implications, including specific activities. Although ChatGPT can be very beneficial for teachers, it sets a challenging task for them to change the existing teaching approaches and assessments to boost students' cognitive,...

Corrective feedback and learner uptake: negotiation of form in communicative classrooms
Roy Lyster, Leila Ranta (1997)
Studies in Second Language Acquisition
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: feedback/retroalimentación

Resumen:

This article presents a study of corrective feedback and learner uptake (i.e., responses to feedback) in four immersion classrooms at the primary level. Transcripts totaling 18.3 hours of classroom interaction taken from 14 subject-matter lessons and 13 French language arts lessons were analyzed using a model developed for the study and comprising the various moves in an error treatment sequence. Results include the frequency and distribution of the six different feedback types used by the four teachers, in addition to the frequency and distribution of different types of learner uptake following each feedback type. The findings indicate an overwhelming tendency for teachers to use recasts in spite of the latter’s ineffectiveness at eliciting student-generated repair. Four other feedback types—elicitation, metalinguistic feedback,...

Interlanguage adjustments as an outcome of NS-NNS negotiated interaction
Teresa Pica (1988)
Language Learning
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: interacción

Resumen:

The purpose of the following study was to investigate what Swain has labeled “comprehensible output” (Swain 1985). Negotiated interactions between a native English speaker (NS) and ten nonnative speakers (NNSs) of English were examined to find out how the nonnative speakers made their interlanguage utterances comprehensible when the native speaker indicated difficulty in understanding them. On the basis of theoretical work and anecdotal evidence from NS-NNS interaction, it was believed that the NNSs would respond to the NS by modifying interlanguage morphosyntax, phonology, and lexicon and, in so doing, would employ more target-like use of English. Results of the study offered somewhat limited confirmation of these beliefs. The data revealed that the NNSs were, indeed, capable of modifying their interlanguage in response to the NS’s...

Do AI chatbots improve students learning outcomes… Evidence from a meta-analysis
Rong Wu, Zhonggen Yu (2024)
British Journal of Educational Technology
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: metaanálisis

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

Artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots are gaining increasing popularity in education. The proliferation of experimental studies has highlighted the need to summarize and synthesize the inconsistent findings about the effects of AI chatbots on students' learning outcomes. The present study performed a meta-analysis of 24 randomized studies. The main goal was to meta-analytically examine the effects of AI chatbots on students' learning outcomes and the moderating effects of educational levels and intervention duration. The results indicated that AI chatbots had a large effect on students' learning outcomes. Moreover, AI chatbots had a greater effect on students in...

"Is it Okay to Use AI for This?" A Model for Values-Based Decision Making in Language Teaching and Learning
Kit Pribble (2025)
The FLTMAG
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: propuesta didáctica

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

Developing a critical imagination for how researchers can use artificially intelligent tools reflexively and responsibly during qualitative literature reviews
Kristen Foley, Caitlan McLean, Reece De Zylva (2025)
International Journal of Qualitative Methods
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: trabajo teórico

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

Artificially intelligent (AI) tools hold significant potential for researchers during the processes of qualitative literature review. Beyond only literature retrieval, some AI tools describe their use-value as being able to appraise and synthesise contrasting evidence within and across papers; work like «Spotify» to cultivate a personalised ecosystem of research articles that evolves via algorithmic learning; and suggest new directions for research based on existing evidence about a topic and an assessment of knowledge gaps. Our manuscript engages with this critical challenge by using multi-layered forms of reasoning to develop a critical imagination for qualitative researchers integrating novel...

The role of changes in pronunciation ability and anxiety through Gen-AI on EFL learners’ self-directed speaking motivation and social interaction confidence - A CHAT perspective
Whyunyoung Choi (2025)
System
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

This study examines the impact of Gen-AI on EFL learners' foreign language (FL) pronunciation ability, FL speaking anxiety, self-directed speaking motivation, and social interaction confidence through Cultural-Historical Activity Theory (CHAT). Using a mixed-methods approach, the study conducted quantitative assessments of pronunciation ability and speaking anxiety, while qualitatively exploring learners' experiences with Gen-AI feedback through in-depth interviews. Findings suggest that learners experienced improvements in pronunciation ability and reductions in FL speaking anxiety, which coincided with increased self-directed motivation and social interaction confidence. When...
