Resumen:
The computer vision applications in intelligent tutoring systems (ITS) have enabled its use in various domains such as dance and sports. The adaptation in the tutoring system is based on the analysis of hand gestures, body postures, and movement. All these are termed as gross body movements (GBM). The use of these in the intelligent tutoring systems is termed as GBM-ITS in this article. There is no survey paper that considers the use of GBM-ITS in different domains. A systematic process is followed to address six review questions (RQs) by considering the 33 articles published between 2010 to 2022. A brief discussion regarding the methods adopted for analysis and the performance...

Resumen:
Feedback is an essential component of scaffolding for learning. Feedback provides insights into the assistance of learners in terms of achieving learning goals and improving self-regulated skills. In online courses, feedback becomes even more critical since instructors and students are separated geographically and physically. In this context, feedback allows the instructor to customize learning content according to the students' needs. However, giving feedback is a challenging task for instructors, especially in contexts of large cohorts. As a result, several automatic feedback systems have been proposed to reduce the workload on the part of the instructor. Although these systems have...

Resumen:
The increasing integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within educational contexts is fostering significant pedagogical shifts, with flipped learning concurrently gaining prominence as a dynamic, student-centered instructional model. Despite their individual merits, there remains a paucity of empirical research on the synergistic effects when AI enhances flipped learning, particularly concerning crucial EFL learner variables such as metacognitive awareness, writing development, and foreign language boredom. This study, therefore, aimed to address this gap by examining the impact of an AI-enhanced flipped learning environment. To this end, a quasi-experimental design was implemented...

Resumen:
Nowadays, fewer students are choosing to enroll in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields. STEM students in schools and in higher educational institutions appear to be waning, as evidenced by low secondary school STEM enrolments. To add to this, there are also STEM stream students who dropped out and switched to non-STEM streams. This resulted in a shortage of qualified candidates for STEM-based higher education programmes, and subsequently an insufficient number of STEM graduates. Researchers have found several potential contributing factors that may have impacted students’ selection of STEM. However, this relationship is still unclear and needs further...

Resumen:
This study examines the effectiveness of artificial intelligence (AI) in language teaching, particularly in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms, following AI's increased adoption after the COVID-19 pandemic. Through a multilevel meta-analysis of 117 effect sizes across 46 empirical studies published between 2022 and 2025, results show that AI has a statistically significant medium-to-large overall impact on language learning (g = 0.74, 95 % CI [0.57, 0.92], p < .001) across all five major skills, with vocabulary showing the strongest effects, followed by reading, writing, listening, and speaking.Grounded in constructivist, adaptive learning, and cognitive load theories,...

The academic Spanish, whether in its native or non-native version, requires a theoretical and prescriptive description that - for reasons of necessity, in...

Resumen:
The public release of ChatGPT in November 2022 ignited an intense debate about the effects generative AI (GAI) tools will have on language teaching. The advanced capability of GAI tools and their rapid uptake by students has brought both challenges and opportunities to language teachers. This qualitative study, using in-depth individual and group interviews with ten beginning teachers and seventeen first-year English language teachers, explored their readiness for using GAI tools in their professional work and their perceptions of GAI in language teaching. The study found that first-year teachers were generally ready for the use of GAI tools and could recognize its potential to support...

Resumen:
This paper reports on the design, implementation, and refinement of Play with AI (PL-AI), a developmentally appropriate curriculum designed to introduce foundational artificial intelligence (AI) concepts to pre-kindergarten and kindergarten children. Using a design-based research (DBR) approach, two pre-K and two kindergarten teachers co-designed, piloted, and refined seven sequenced activities integrating unplugged play (e.g., children composing and testing “how-to” algorithms), tangible coding (e.g., programming Bee-Bot or Ozobot to follow paths), and guided dialogue with a social AI robot (e.g., comparing children's story endings with the robot's). The study addressed two research...

Resumen:
This article is a cross-sectional study that examined 30 Tunisian L1 Arabic- L2 French -L3 Spanish learners’ written narratives at B1 and C1 levels, as well as 15 Spanish native speakers. Its main purpose was to find out whether there is a L1 Arabic or a L2 French transfer in learners Spanish preterite and imperfect distinction, based on Andersen’s 1986, 1991 LAH (Lexical Aspect Hypothesis). The results showed no significant correlation between lexical and morphological aspects in the participants’ productions. Moreover, an independent sampled t-test allowed us to verify no significant difference between the advanced C1 group and the native group regarding preterite and imperfect use with...

Resumen:
The educational application of Generative AI (GAI) has garnered significant interest, sparking discussions about the pedagogical value of GAI-generated content. This study investigates the perceived effectiveness of concept explanations produced by GAI compared to those created by human teachers, focusing on programming concepts of sequence, selection, and iteration. The research also explores teachers' and students' ability to discern the source of these explanations. Participants included 11 teachers and 70 sixth-grade students who were presented with concept explanations created or generated by teachers and ChatGPT. They were asked to evaluate the helpfulness of the explanations and...
