Towards responsible AI in education: A Delphi-AHP-based framework for evaluating educational large language models
Pingrong Lin, Qin Deng, Yanbian Zhou (2026)
Computers & Education: Artificial Intelligence
Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

As large language models (LLMs) become deeply integrated into the educational landscape, evaluation criteria focusing solely on performance are insufficient to mitigate the risks of value misalignment and socioethical concerns. To steer educational LLMs towards responsible and beneficial development, this study aims to construct a multidimensional evaluation framework grounded in educational theory. Initially, a preliminary pool of evaluation indicators was established on the basis of a review of the literature and pedagogical theories. The Delphi method was subsequently employed to refine the indicator structure by integrating opinions from 21 cross-disciplinary experts. The analytic...

Resumen:

The demand for skilled programmers and the increasing complexity of coding skills have led to a rise in the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies in computer programming education. Previous research has explored the potential of AI in aspects such as grading assignments, generating feedback, detecting plagiarism, and identifying at-risk students, but there is a lack of systematic reviews focused on AI-powered teaching processes in computer programming classes. To provide a more comprehensive understanding of AI and ML's role in computer programming education, this systematic review examines a wider range of applications across the entire pedagogical...

Resumen:

Texto completo

This paper examines the determinants that drive ChatGPT use in learning among Indonesian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) students. A proposed model based on the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology model-2 (UTAUT2) was used in the context of the study. A pilot study was done prior to the main data collection to examine the reliability of the instrument. For the structural model assessment, 1117 responses were analyzed through Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) and Importance-Performance Analysis (IPMA). Most hypotheses are confirmed by the significant results reported through the PLS-SEM. The strongest determinant of Behavioral Intention (BI) to...

Coauthorship integrity: Reconceptualising assessment validity for the age of generative artificial intelligence

Resumen:

We consider how a future of pervasive human/AI coauthorship challenges current notions of validity and academic integrity. Specifically, we address widespread concerns that in non-proctored contexts, students are using generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) to submit texts they do not understand. Adopting an assessment validity lens, we show how GenAI undermines the integrity of multiple forms of validity evidence, leading us to propose Coauthorship Integrity as a new conceptual source of validity evidence for addressing these threats. Coauthorship Integrity is violated when students submit AI-generated content that they do not understand. To hold students accountable in this regard, a...

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

The study evaluates the effectiveness of a 12-week AI module delivered to non-STEM university students in England, aimed at building students' AI Capital, encompassing AI-related knowledge, skills, and capabilities. An integral part of the process involved the development and validation of the AI Capital of Students scale, used to measure AI Capital before and after the educational intervention. The module was delivered on four occasions to final-year students between 2023 and 2024, with follow-up data collected on students' employment status. The findings indicate that AI learning enhances students' AI Capital across all three dimensions. Moreover, AI Capital is positively associated with...

This study investigates the transformative potential of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), particularly ChatGPT, in addressing educational challenges faced by Iranian English language teachers (N = 23). Drawing on qualitative data from focus group sessions, semi-structured interviews, and reflective essays, the study reveals five key themes: accessible learning materials, personalized learning experiences, addressing ideological influences, overcoming technological barriers, and combating isolation from global trends. The findings highlight GenAI’s capacity to provide diverse and up-to-date learning materials tailored to individual learners' needs, address ideological biases, and...

Detalles Cerrar βœ•

Tipo: artículo

Metodología: estudio empírico

Temas: inteligencia artificial

Resumen:

Texto completo

Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED) has been the focus of significant attention in recent years because of its growing social importance and pedagogical value. In Hong Kong, an increasing number of K-12 schools are planning or piloting their grassroots AIED incorporation practices. However, progress is reportedly slow due to a number of barriers. Unfortunately, because of their limited scope, disputed interpretations and contextual irrelevance, current research literature seems to be of limited referencing value in aiding schools to address the issues and overcome the barriers. This paper highlights the necessity of embracing AIED as wide-ranging given the current understanding of...

Teaching and learning in higher education require adaptation following students' inevitable use of AI chatbots. This study contributes to the empirical literature on students' use of AI chatbots and how they influence learning. The aim of this study is to identify how to adapt programming education in higher engineering education. A mixed-methods case study was conducted of a scientific computing course in a Mechanical Engineering Master's program at a Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands. Data consisted of 29 student questionnaires, a semi-structured group interview with three students, a semi-structured interview with the teacher, and 29 students' grades. Results show...

Resumen:

Texto completo

As digital citizenship becomes an essential educational priority in the digital age, there is a growing need for sustainable and engaging instructional designs that foster students' ethical and responsible use of technology. Addressing this gap, this study modeled the sustainability perspectives underlying personalized digital game-based learning through a partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) approach. A longitudinal repeated-measures design was conducted with 372 lower secondary students in Thailand, using fuzzy logic and decision tree algorithms to personalize ethical digital scenarios. The proposed model examined how pedagogical design, content quality, usability...

Resumen:

Texto completo

This study investigates the application of machine learning and BERT models to identify topic categories in helpful online course reviews and uncover factors that influence the overall satisfaction of learners in massive open online courses (MOOCs). The research has three main objectives: (1) to assess the effectiveness of machine learning models in classifying review helpfulness, (2) to evaluate the performance of fine-tuned BERT models in identifying review topics, and (3) to explore the factors that influence learner satisfaction across various disciplines. The study uses a MOOC corpus containing 102,184 course reviews from 401 courses across 13 disciplines. The methodology involves...
