Resumen:

Texto completo en HTML

Previous studies demonstrate that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) dialogue systems for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education has effectively improved university students' reading, writing, and listening abilities. However, there are limited systematic reviews focused on the evidence-based interactional competence of EFL university students. This study aims to examine the use of AI dialogue systems to enhance EFL university students' interactional competence. Through the PRISMA process, this study identified 28 articles published between January 2013 and August 2022 in journals and conferences from the most popular databases, including Google Scholar, ProQuest, IEEE,...

Understanding RAG: A Game-Changer for Language Learning
Anne Pham, Hillary Zhong (2026)
The FLTMAG

Texto completo

This opinion paper explores educational interactions involving humans and artificial intelligences not as sequences of prompts and responses, but as a social process of conversation and exploration. In this conception, learners continually converse with AI language models and other human learners within a dynamic computational medium of internet tools and resources. Learning happens when this distributed human-AI system sets goals, builds meaning from data, consolidates understanding, reconciles differences, and transfers knowledge to new domains. Building social generative AI for education will require development of powerful AI systems that can converse with each other as well as humans,...

Metodología: propuesta didáctica

Temas: inteligencia artificial chatbots tecnología educativa

Temas IA: IA y educación IA y aprendizaje prompts

Resumen:

Chatbots are able to produce high-quality, sophisticated text in natural language. The authors of this paper believe that AI can be used to overcome three barriers to learning in the classroom: improving transfer, breaking the illusion of explanatory depth, and training students to critically evaluate explanations. The paper provides background information and techniques on how AI can be used to overcome these barriers and includes prompts and assignments that teachers can incorporate into their teaching. The goal is to help teachers use the capabilities and drawbacks of AI to improve learning.

Texto completo

This systematic review investigates how students' over-reliance on AI dialogue systems affects their critical cognitive capabilities, including decision-making, critical thinking, and analytical reasoning. Over-reliance on AI occurs when users accept AI-generated recommendations without question, typically when individuals struggle to assess the reliability of AI or how much trust to place in its suggestions. Following PRISMA guidelines, the review evaluated 14 articles from ProQuest, IEEE Xplore, ScienceDirect and Web of Science. The findings indicate that over-reliance stemming from ethical issues of AI impacts cognitive abilities, as individuals increasingly favor fast and optimal...

Metodología: experiencia práctica

Temas: inteligencia artificial chatbots expresión oral

Temas IA: chatbots IA y enseñanza-aprendizaje de lenguas IA y aprendizaje

Resumen:

Texto completo

This entry provides a concise overview of the research conducted on chatbots in language teaching and learning, and aims to introduce chatbots as a distinct field within computer-assisted language learning (CALL). Much of the existing research focuses solely on chatbots' functions as conversational software, lacking deep reflection and theorization. In response to the need for a theoretical foundation, the authors review previous studies to highlight three considerations: the unique characteristics of chatbots that distinguish them from human interlocutors; research frameworks incorporating cognitive, sociocultural, and critical approaches; and areas in language education that intersect with chatbot technology.
