This article examines the role of advanced generative AI chatbots, particularly ChatGPT, in supporting Spanish language teaching. It explores how ChatGPT can aid educators in developing language learning tasks, utilizing a five-step model and backward design methodology. Through an exploratory and descriptive approach, the study sheds light on ChatGPT's potential in task generation. The article shows that ChatGPT can produce a broad array of integrated tasks for the interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational modes, targeting specific learning objectives and standards. This working paper discusses the risks and benefits of generative AI for teachers and students in writing, literature, and language programs and makes principle-driven recommendations for how educators, administrators, and policy makers can work together to develop ethical, mission-driven policies and support broad development of critical AI literacy.

We invite you to comment on the working paper to help inform the task force's ongoing activities. We intend for this to be the first of subsequent working papers that will be developed as the task force receives feedback and identifies priorities in the coming year.

La llegada de la Inteligencia Artificial (IA) ha planteado cambios y desafíos en el ámbito educativo. Lo que nos lleva a cuestionarnos cuáles son los aspectos éticos y los lineamientos que se deben tomar en cuenta en el uso de las herramientas de Inteligencia Artificial generativa en la enseñanza-aprendizaje de una lengua extranjera.

El objetivo de este trabajo es abordar dichos aspectos y lineamientos para implementarlos en nuestra labor como docentes de lenguas extranjeras; lo que dará paso a una nueva dirección en la investigación y a nuevas teorías de enseñanza-aprendizaje.
