This paper presents a comprehensive review of the use of Artificial Intelligence in Systematic Literature Reviews (SLRs). The study focuses on how AI techniques are applied in the semi-automation of SLRs, specifically in the screening and extraction phases. The authors examine 21 leading SLR tools using a framework that combines 23 traditional features with 11 AI features, and also analyse 11 recent tools that leverage large language models for searching the literature and assisting academic writing. The paper highlights three primary research challenges: integrating advanced AI solutions such as large language models and knowledge graphs, improving usability, and...

This systematic review explores the efficacy of AI-driven chatbots in second language (L2) acquisition and examines their pedagogical implications. Synthesizing findings from 30 empirical studies published between 2020 and 2024, this review investigates the impact of chatbots use across core language skills, including speaking, writing, reading, listening, grammar, and vocabulary. Results indicate notable improvements in learners' productive and receptive skills, especially in speaking and writing, due to features such as real-time feedback, anxiety reduction, and increase practice opportunities. While reading and listening also showed positive outcomes, their development was often...

Artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots are gaining increasing popularity in education. The proliferation of experimental studies has highlighted the need to summarize and synthesize the inconsistent findings about the effects of AI chatbots on students' learning outcomes. The present study performed a meta-analysis of 24 randomized studies. The main goal was to meta-analytically examine the effects of AI chatbots on students' learning outcomes and the moderating effects of educational levels and intervention duration. The results indicated that AI chatbots had a large effect on students' learning outcomes. Moreover, AI chatbots had a greater effect on students in...

Temas: chatbots inteligencia artificial motivación

Temas IA: chatbots revisión de bibliografía IA y aprendizaje

Resumen:

Texto completo

This scoping review summarizes the empirical research on using chatbots to promote student motivation in learning. With a systematic analysis of 43 relevant studies published between 1966 and 2023, it addresses five aspects: underlying theories, motivational outcomes investigated, intervention designs, the relationship between chatbots and student motivation, and chatbot characteristics. Engagement, interest, and intrinsic motivation were the most investigated among 32 motivational variables. Overall, chatbot interactions positively correlated with student motivation, although sustained interest was related to prior human interactions. Chatbots generally outperformed non-chatbot conditions...

This entry provides a concise overview of the research conducted on chatbots in language teaching and learning, and aims to introduce chatbots as a distinct field within computer-assisted language learning (CALL). Much of the existing research focuses solely on chatbots' functions as conversational software, lacking deep reflection and theorization. In response to the need for a theoretical foundation, the authors review previous studies to highlight three considerations: the unique characteristics of chatbots that distinguish them from human interlocutors; research frameworks incorporating cognitive, sociocultural, and critical approaches; and areas in language education that intersect with chatbot technology.
