Chatbots are able to produce high-quality, sophisticated text in natural language. The authors of this paper believe that AI can be used to overcome three barriers to learning in the classroom: improving transfer, breaking the illusion of explanatory depth, and training students to critically evaluate explanations. The paper provides background information and techniques on how AI can be used to overcome these barriers and includes prompts and assignments that teachers can incorporate into their teaching. The goal is to help teachers use the capabilities and drawbacks of AI to improve learning.

Relato de una experiencia de aula con chatbots (Character.AI) como interlocutores de práctica oral, con estudiantes de niveles B1-B2+. La autora sostiene que el chatbot ofrece intercambios espontáneos e imprevisibles sin la presión social del trabajo por parejas, y organiza las actividades en torno a tres dimensiones: comprensión cultural, empatía y humor, con juegos de rol y personajes interculturales creados a medida.

This study examines the impact of Gen-AI on EFL learners' foreign language (FL) pronunciation ability, FL speaking anxiety, self-directed speaking motivation, and social interaction confidence through Cultural-Historical Activity Theory (CHAT). Using a mixed-methods approach, the study conducted quantitative assessments of pronunciation ability and speaking anxiety, while qualitatively exploring learners' experiences with Gen-AI feedback through in-depth interviews. This scoping review summarizes the empirical research on using chatbots to promote student motivation in learning. With a systematic analysis of 43 relevant studies published between 1966 and 2023, it addresses five aspects: underlying theories, motivational outcomes investigated, intervention designs, the relationship between chatbots and student motivation, and chatbot characteristics. Engagement, interest, and intrinsic motivation were the most investigated among 32 motivational variables.
