Aunque el artículo ‘La imágenes mentales en la adquisición de la gramática de la segunda lengua: el caso de ‘ser’ y ‘estar’ en español’ de Morales y Smith es interesante por la temática y por el intento de adopción de una metodología innovadora que pudiera explicar el proceso que los aprendices de español cuya lengua materna es el inglés siguen a la hora de la adquisición de ambos verbos copulativos; sin embargo, dicho artículo sufre de serias deficiencias tanto de carácter teórico como metodológico. En este comentario me ceñiré a aquellas de carácter teórico con el cometido de arrojar algunas ideas para aquellos investigadores interesados en la investigación del español como L2, y más concretamente en algunos de sus aspectos gramaticales como son el ser/estar debido a su complejidad.
Although the article 'The mental images in the acquisition of second-language grammar: the case of' being 'and' being 'in Spanish' by Morales and Smith is interesting because of the theme and the attempt to adopt an innovative methodology that could explain the process that the apprentices of Spanish whose mother tongue is the English follow at the time of the acquisition of both copulative verbs; however, this article suffers from serious deficiencies, both theoretical and methodological. In this comment I will stick to those of a theoretical nature with the task of throwing some ideas for those researchers interested in the investigation of Spanish as L2, and more specifically in some of its grammatical aspects such as "ser" / "estar" due to its complexity.
