14th National Symposium on Spanish as a Heritage Language
From Awareness to Action: Classroom to Community Pathways

We are pleased to invite submissions for our upcoming 14th National Symposium on Spanish as a Heritage Language, to be held from Thursday, February 18 to Saturday, February 20, 2027 at the University of California, Davis.

Held in California for the first time, the symposium brings together researchers and K-16 educators from across the country. Our goal is to connect scholarship and practice, to dismantle misconceptions about heritage languages and bilingualism, and to positively impact students’ lived experiences.

This forum will be designed to foster collaboration among scholars, educators, and community stakeholders, co-developing culturally responsive resources and identifying research pathways that directly inform classroom practice, public discourse, and community needs.

Proposals, in Spanish, English, or Spanglish, should consist of an anonymized abstract containing the presentation’s title (300 words maximum excluding references, tables, figures, and title).

Proposal submission deadline: October 11th, 2026 (extended)

Possible topics include but are not limited to:

  • Spanish for the Professions (SFP)
  • Writing in SHL contexts
