As part of the SUNY initiative Promoting Recruitment, Opportunity, Diversity, Inclusion and Growth Plus (PRODiG+) Fellowship, the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at Binghamton University invites applications from scholars of Afro-Latinx literature, culture, or linguistics whose research examines the intersections of race, gender, class, and language. While the hire will teach courses in the Spanish Division, candidates whose research engages Afro-Lusophone communities or Luso-Hispanic Creoles are especially encouraged to apply. We seek a scholar whose work is not only innovative but also readily integrated into the Spanish-language classroom for both second-language learners and heritage speakers, many of whom are of Caribbean descent.
This is a two-year fellowship (12-month appointment, AY27-AY29). During this period, the fellow will have a teaching load of one course per year and will be expected to prioritize productivity in scholarship. The goal is conversion to a tenure track position in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at the completion of the fellowship.
Budget Title: Postdoctoral Associate (SL-1). Full-time, temporary.
- Hold a doctoral degree in Spanish or an applicable field by the time of appointment.
- Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English.
- Experience teaching intermediate or advanced college-level Spanish.
- Research demonstrating theoretical and/or applied approaches to Afro-Latinx Studies.
- Be eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship.
- Demonstrate personal, academic, and/or work experience engaging with diversity, equity, and inclusion and/or a commitment to facilitating and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the campus community.
