The individual will:

    • Spanish Acquisition: for students brand new to the language, these classes  keen focus on Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing

    • Spanish Language Studies: for advanced spanish speaking students, these classes blend a focus on strengthening Spanish literacy while also incorporating literature studies.

  • Collaborate with other Spanish and Humanities teachers across the division

  • Develop unit planners in line with the IB’s philosophy, including hands-on investigations and real-world projects

  • Serve as an advisor or grade leader for middle school students

  • Plan and facilitate division-wide clubs, electives, or fulfill supervisory duties as required by the Middle School Division

  • Write detailed narrative reports twice per year

  • Assist with the organization of the annual Spanish language trip

  • Assist with the organization of the annual DELE (Spanish proficiency) exams

  • Foster a positive, inquiry-based learning environment

  • Support students outside of class as needed during the school day

  • Provide timely and consistent feedback to students and families

  • Communicate effectively and build strong partnerships with students, families, and colleagues

  • Attend and chaperone trips (as needed)

  • Model and promote kindness, positivity, and integrity both in and out of the classroom

  • Teaching experience, preferably in a middle school setting; experience teaching in an independent, international, or IB school is a plus

  • Degree in History, Spanish language, or education, and/or significant experience and skill with teaching humanities and/or language courses

  • Familiarity with and commitment to inquiry-based learning

  • Supportive, student-centered approach and ability to differentiate instruction effectively and intuitively

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to fostering inclusive learning spaces, actively examining how systems of privilege and bias may shape educational practices, and striving to ensure that all students, families and colleagues experience belonging and dignity. Preferred candidates will have experience embedding equitable and anti-bias principles in their teaching, leadership, and daily interactions, and will be eager to grow as partners in ISB’s collective journey toward a more just and connected world.
