Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), a member of the Texas A&M University System, welcomes applicants for a Chair of the Department of Humanities and Associate/Full Professor of English or History or Spanish to begin Fall 2027.

TAMIU is a Hispanic Serving Institution with over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant and bicultural city with a population of about 250,000. The university advances knowledge through research and discovery, teaching and learning, community engagement and public service, and with an intentional focus on student success and research excellence.

This is a tenured associate/full professor 12-month position with a reduced teaching load. Primary duties will include modeling, supporting, and rewarding faculty excellence in teaching, research, scholarship, and service; assessing, revising, innovating, and modernizing curricula; coordinating course scheduling and course offering plans, and overseeing the recruitment and hiring of new faculty. Duties also include credentialing and evaluating faculty, managing departmental accounts and budget, developing partnerships across the university and community, providing support to students, supporting recruitment and retention initiatives, and representing the department in college and university-level meetings and strategic planning. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

The Department of Humanities has 29 full-time faculty. It offers BAs in English, History, and Spanish, a minor in Philosophy, and three graduate programs: an MA in English, an MA in History & Political Thought, and an MA in Language, Literature, & Translation.

We offer a benefits package including health insurance, retirement benefits, and life insurance. Financial support for professional development opportunities, such as attending academic conferences, is also provided. Moving expenses are covered in whole or in part by the university.

The successful candidate must hold a doctorate in English, History, Spanish, or a closely related discipline. Candidates must have a record of publications and teaching experience commensurate to rank and at least 5 years of full-time faculty experience. Tenure will only be granted after approval of the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents.

We strongly encourage candidates with a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications as well as experience in writing, securing, and managing external grants (infrastructure, instrument, programmatic, or research). We also strongly encourage candidates with administrative experience as a program coordinator, program director, or department chair.
