The Department of Languages and Intercultural Studies at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the advanced assistant or early associate level in Spanish for the Professions. The teaching load for this position is 3/3.
At Coastal Carolina University, we have a thriving program in Spanish for health professions, including both a minor and a new graduate certificate. We also offer a B.A. in Languages and Intercultural Studies with concentrations in Hispanic Studies and Multiple Languages. The successful candidate will take a leadership role in coordinating the Spanish for Health Professions program and contribute to the overall growth of programs in our department, collaborate with community partners, supervise student internships, and contribute to other departmental initiatives.
Duties include teaching students in the classroom, laboratory and/or studio; preparing content, syllabi and curricular sites for each course assigned; conducting research to create and add to knowledge in the field; and engaging in university-related activities including committee assignments and scholarly pursuits.
Start date: August 16, 2027. Full-time, 9-month appointment.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Spanish by the start date and exhibit strong potential for excellence in teaching. Familiarity with and the ability to put into practice ACTFL Standards are essential. The candidate must be able to collaborate and engage productively with faculty in a multi-language department that values a variety of perspectives.
Preferred qualifications: evidence of experience teaching Spanish for the Professions; native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English; experience teaching language courses to students from a broad range of majors at a US institution of higher education; evidence of proficiency in teaching with technology; experience teaching Spanish for health-related professions; evidence of scholarly activity related to Spanish for the Professions; experience with program coordination.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in teaching and developing curricula in Spanish for health professions, but additional areas of expertise in Spanish for the professions will be considered. Advanced assistant professors are encouraged to apply.
