The School of Social Science and Global Studies at The University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Assistant Teaching Professor of Spanish beginning August 2027; this is a teaching-track position with opportunities for promotion.
The School is seeking Spanish generalist candidates who will demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, teach a full range of undergraduate and graduate courses in both the World Languages BA and the Master of Arts in the Teaching of Languages programs, advise and mentor students, serve on committees, and work with graduate teaching assistants to implement standards-based practices.
Primary duties: teach four courses per semester, fall and spring, face-to-face and online as needed; hold regular office hours; mentor and advise students in the program; attend faculty and program meetings; engage in professional development and/or scholarly activities; and provide service to the School, College and University.
Start date: August 2027.
Ph.D. or Ed.D. with specialization in Spanish, second language acquisition, teacher education or related field, with at least 18 hours of graduate Spanish, completed by August 2027. Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish. Knowledge of second language acquisition, Spanish language pedagogy and standards-based approaches to language teaching. Preferred: experience teaching and mentoring in a university setting with a diverse student body, online teaching and online course design experience, graduate level teaching experience, and interest in leading study abroad programs.
