The Spanish Department at Wake Forest University invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor in Spanish to join our faculty beginning July 1, 2023. This full-time, non-tenure track position with benefits offers an initial two-year appointment with possibility of renewal and promotion on a teaching-centered career path.
The teaching requirement is six courses per year, primarily in introductory and intermediate Spanish classes and may also include courses in First Year Seminar or study abroad programs. All faculty, including Teaching Professors, serve as academic advisers and on departmental or university committees and receive support for continuing professional development. The Department has a strong commitment to faculty and student diversity and is particularly interested in candidates whose critical perspectives are linked to the experiences of groups historically underrepresented in higher education in ways that inform and influence their pedagogical approach.
Successful applicants will have an M.A. at minimum, PhD preferred, in Spanish or a related field, as well as native or near-native fluency in both Spanish and English. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate Spanish language courses in a 4-year college or university setting and training or professional activity related to foreign language pedagogy.
