The faculty member is expected to maintain a balanced research, scholarship, teaching, and service portfolio. Primary scholarly responsibilities include maintaining a productive research agenda, including publications of research and scholarly work, seeking external funding for research and/or training, and participating in professional organizations and conferences. Teaching responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses relevant to World Languages Education programs and others based on expertise. Additional responsibilities include advising and mentoring graduate students, program advising, serving on departmental, college, and university committees, and service to the professional community.
The Department of Middle and Secondary Education is part of the College of Education and Human Development at Georgia State University, and prepares middle and secondary educators, scholars, and community and school leaders through undergraduate, master's, doctoral, and teacher certification programs.
Start date: August 1, 2027. Full-time faculty position on the Atlanta campus; the position may require non-standard hours, including day, evening, online, hybrid, weekend and/or other campus locations.
Earned doctoral degree in Second Language Acquisition, or closely related field, with an expertise in World Languages Education.
Strong evidence of a developing research agenda and potential for attracting externally funded research and scholarly activities; expertise in standards-based World Languages pedagogy and content; strong understanding of current trends and issues in World Languages Education; professional experience with K12 students and teachers, preferably in urban settings; demonstrated commitment to critical sociocultural perspectives in working with bi/multicultural and multi/plurilingual populations; experience and demonstrated commitment to working with diverse student populations in urban settings; fluency in language(s) other than English.
Preferred: knowledge of Spanish heritage language learning and/or dual language immersion; at least three years teaching experience in the K12 setting, preferably urban public schools; teaching experience at the university level in teacher preparation; experience supervising teacher candidates in middle or secondary settings; experience preparing preservice teachers and/or teacher professional development; experience integrating research-based teaching practices; evidence of productivity in teaching and research.
