The Department of Languages and Linguistics seeks an Assistant Professor of Spanish specializing in Peninsular Spanish. This is a tenure track position. We are looking for a candidate who can contribute across the undergraduate Spanish curriculum and is prepared to teach elementary, intermediate, and advanced Spanish language courses, as well as upper-division courses in their area of expertise.
The University of Tampa is a medium-sized, comprehensive, residentially based private institution of more than 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students, ideally situated on a beautiful 110-acre campus next to the Hillsborough River, adjacent to Tampa's dynamic central business district. The University offers more than 200 areas of study, including majors in its colleges of Arts and Letters, Business, Natural and Health Sciences and Social Sciences, Math and Education, and 18 master's programs and 3 professional doctoral programs.
The College of Arts and Letters is home to eight collaborative and innovative academic departments: Art and Design, Communication, English and Writing, Film, Animation and New Media, Languages and Linguistics, Music, Philosophy and Religion, and Theatre and Dance. Faculty and students work with emerging technologies in facilities including the Ferman Center for the Arts, the Bailey Art Studios and FabLAB, the historic Falk Theatre, the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values, and the Cass media production facilities. The appointment is full time.
Candidates should have a strong background in Peninsular literature and cultural studies, with additional interests in areas such as film and visual culture, digital media and digital humanities, Iberian studies, or contemporary cultural studies. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and to current, proficiency-oriented and technology-enhanced approaches to language instruction.
A terminal degree is required, and a copy of the terminal degree transcript must be submitted with the application. Finalists may be required to submit to a criminal background check.
