One year Visiting Assistant Professor of Spanish
The department of Modern Languages and Linguistics at the University of South Dakota invites applications for the position of one year visiting Instructor or Assistant Professor of Spanish to begin in fall 2026.
Expectations are that the candidate will teach 3 to 4 courses per semester (18-24 credits total) depending on qualifications and department needs. The remaining commitment (~20%) will be service within the department.
The anticipated start date is August 20, 2026.
An earned master’s degree is required for instructor rank and a terminal degree is required for appointment at the rank of assistant professor.
The successful candidate:
· will be able to teach Latin American literature and/or a Spanish phonetics/linguistics course, as well as a conversation course and 200 level intermediate Spanish
· should have native/near native fluency in Spanish and English be able to demonstrate evidence of superior teaching at the post-secondary level.
· should demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching, expertise in current methodologies and culture-based instruction, including integration of technology in the classroom and successful teaching and mentoring of students from all backgrounds.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
Special Instructions:
