The School of Modern Languages and Applied Linguistics at the University of Limerick is seeking to appoint a specific purpose Teaching Assistant in Visual Cultural Studies and Spanish. The role will involve undergraduate teaching in cultural, film, and visual studies, including core and elective modules within Spanish and Hispanic Studies. The post holder will contribute to the design and delivery of lectures, seminars, and assessments, and to the supervision of undergraduate projects. The role also includes participation in curriculum delivery, academic administration, and student academic support as required. The ability to contribute to Spanish language teaching would be advantageous.

“A Teaching Assistant post in the University of Limerick operates as a training contract. The duration of the contract is limited to 10 months. However, it may be renewed for one further period only not exceeding 10 months. Applications will only be considered from individuals who have not already received two Teaching Assistant contracts”.
Essential Criteria
- Masters (level 9NFQ) in film studies, visual cultural studies, Spanish cultural studies, Hispanic studies, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated expertise in teaching film studies and/or visual cultural studies in a Higher Education environment.
- Ability to teach across a range of undergraduate levels (Years 1–4)
- Native or near-native command, spoken and written, of English; advanced competence in Spanish sufficient to teach and engage with Spanish/Hispanic cultural materials.
- Evidence of effective organization, communication, and administrative skills related to teaching.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively and contribute positively to a collegial academic environment.
Desirable Criteria
- PhD (level 10NFQ, completed or near completion) in Film Studies, Visual Cultural Studies, Spanish Cultural Studies, Hispanic Studies, or a closely related discipline.
- Ability and willingness to contribute to Spanish language teaching or broader Hispanic Studies modules.
- Active or developing research profile in film studies, visual cultural studies, or related fields.
- Interest in student engagement, outreach activities, or interdisciplinary teaching initiatives.
