Anticipated Hiring Pay Range: $48,000 - $52,000
The Kansas State University Department of Modern Languages seeks a dynamic individual for a full-time, non-tenure-track position as Instructor or Teaching Assistant Professor of Spanish in academic year 2026-2027. This is a one-year term position. The successful candidate will teach up to seven sections of elementary and intermediate courses in the basic Spanish language sequence over the course of the academic year. There may be opportunities to replace a limited number of those sections with more advanced courses for Spanish majors and minors. There may also be opportunities for online teaching, but most sections will be in person on the Manhattan, Kansas campus.
We seek candidates with experience or promise in helping students grow their communicative and intercultural skills in Spanish. Service responsibilities may include contributing to a weekly Spanish conversation hour, planning co-curricular events, and contributing to departmental initiatives and committees.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Native, near-native, or advanced proficiency in Spanish
- Master’s degree in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Language Pedagogy, or a related field
- Interest in teaching Spanish language and Hispanic cultures at the beginning and intermediate levels
- Ability to work independently, in a team, and under the supervision of course coordinators
- Willingness to engage in service to the Spanish section and the Department of Modern Languages
- Candidates whose highest degree is a Master’s degree are eligible to be hired at the rank of Instructor
- Candidates whose highest degree is a doctorate are eligible to be hired at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor
The degree requirement is necessary for accreditation purposes and to ensure candidates possess the specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities that can only be attained through a formal educational program at this level.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree or ABD in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Language Pedagogy, or a related field
- Experience teaching Spanish language and Hispanic cultures in a post-secondary setting
- Experience or interest in teaching high-intermediate courses for Spanish majors and minors
