Xavier High School seeks a Spanish language teacher for the 2026-2027 school year.

Founded in 1847, Xavier High School is an academically rigorous, Catholic, Jesuit, college preparatory school in New York City that educates intelligent, motivated young men of diverse backgrounds and means. Xavier teaches students to take responsibility for their lives, to lead with integrity, to act justly in service of others, to pursue excellence in every endeavor and to deepen their relationship with God. Ultimately, Xavier forms young men who will go forth to transform the world for God’s greater glory.

Xavier High School is searching for a motivated and collaborative teacher to join our mission driven team of educators. As a Xavier faculty member, you will be responsible for teaching talented young men from diverse backgrounds and means to take responsibility, lead with integrity, act justly, serve others, and pursue excellence in an academically rigorous, Catholic, Jesuit, college preparatory environment in New York City. Your responsibilities will include lesson planning, classroom management, grading assignments, evaluating students’ progress, curriculum development and co-curricular leadership. 

Job Description

The ideal candidate should be a competent professional with in-depth knowledge of the subject matter, an openness to growth, a commitment to the art and craft of teaching, and an understanding of professional boundaries and appropriate conduct. In addition to having excellent written and verbal communication skills, an attractive candidate will also meet the following criteria.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Spanish language, education or relevant field.
  • Ability to teach and experience in teaching all levels of Spanish language: basic, intermediate, and advanced.
  • Ability to teach or experience with teaching AP Spanish preferred 
  • Ability to teach multiple courses within the department is preferred.  Our course offerings include: Latin, French and Italian. 
  • 2+ years of teaching experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational and classroom management abilities. 
  • Developed interpersonal skills for effective collaboration in a team environment. 
  • Enthusiasm for the work of education in a Catholic, Jesuit context.
