The school now has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Spanish and Catalan Primary Teacher with additional responsibilities as a Languages Lead to join our fantastic team. 

Beginning September 2026, we are seeking to recruit an outstanding Primary Language Teacher (Spanish and Catalan) to join our team at the BSB City Campus. We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic practitioner who will work collaboratively across the Primary phase and demonstrate a strong understanding of effective language acquisition in both Spanish and Catalan and can deliver the LOMLOE curriculum.

The successful candidate will deliver engaging, structured, and progressive language lessons that promote confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. They will use assessment effectively to support language development and ensure that all pupils make strong and sustained progress.

You will join a team of dedicated, enthusiastic, and inspirational professionals who value high academic standards while embracing the opportunities of an international setting. A commitment to the wider life of the school is an essential expectation of the role. 

The Role
• Deliver high-quality Spanish and Catalan lessons across the Primary phase, modelling outstanding practice in an innovative and inspirational way.
• Have high expectations of all pupils and track progress using formative assessment strategies, informed by relevant data and observations across a range of speaking, listening, reading and writing opportunities.
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of effective language acquisition pedagogy, including phonics, pronunciation, vocabulary development, and oracy.
• Contribute to the development and delivery of a coherent, progressive and engaging Spanish and Catalan curriculum across the primary years.
• Provide clear feedback and communicate effectively with parents, ensuring that both pupils and families are aware of strengths, progress and next steps in language learning.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure language learning is embedded where appropriate across the wider curriculum and to support cover capacity across the school when required.
• Actively engage with the school’s performance management programme.
• Work with colleagues and members of the SLT to ensure that school improvement priorities are effectively implemented within the language provision.

Role of Languages Lead
• To oversee curriculum development of Spanish language – both Native Language group, and non-native Intermediate and Beginner groups. To include: 1. Standardised outcomes for native groups in each year group. 2.Termly progression mapping against curriculum coverage for native group in line with Spanish Curriculum guidance. 3. For non-native groups, assessment framework where children can be assessed against level of Spanish acquisition in strands of speaking / listening, writing and reading (not by year group, but by assessed ability on continuum).
• To support quality assurance of Spanish teaching across 4 primary campuses – assist Primary Heads in lesson visits and feedback 
• To support CPD programme for Spanish colleagues 
• To lead team meetings with Spanish colleagues across Primary Campuses 
• To ensure that there is transference of skills in terms of high standards (i.e. if children are taught fronted adverbials in year 3 English lessons, can they apply this in languages) - correlation of curriculum standards 
• To ensure there is a right balance of content and language learning strategies / skills
• To ensure compliance with the educational framework from Catalan Education
• To quality assure Extra Curricular Language offering at each campus, ensuring it is fit for purpose and meets needs of range of learners 

Who We Are Looking For
• Degree in Primary Education recognised by the Spanish Ministry Education
• Languages: Spanish and Catalan is essential and English is Desirable
• Certificate of: Level C of Catalan
• Significant teaching experience in Primary School.

BSB is a large, very popular school for children aged 3 to 18. Our curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum, and we offer a wide range of GCSEs, A levels and the International Baccalaureate Diploma, all alongside a significant enrichment programme.

Over 2000 pupils from more than 74 nationalities attend the school and over 315 staff work at BSB. We are based in three locations, two just outside the city of Barcelona – in Castelldefels, where we have a Primary, Secondary and Pre-University campus, and in the cosmopolitan town of Sitges, where we have another Primary campus. BSB City is in the heart of Barcelona City itself with a Foundation campus (built September 2021), and a brand-new main campus which opened in September 2023.
