The Department of World Languages & Literatures within the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a Lecturer II/Teaching Assistant Professor in Spanish. We seek a dynamic educator with demonstrated expertise in Spanish-language media, journalism, digital communication, Spanish for the professions, and/or Spanish for heritage speakers, experience in teaching Spanish language courses, and a strong commitment to student recruitment and community outreach. The successful candidate will teach lower-division language courses and upper-division courses related to media literacy, digital storytelling, translation, and Spanish for the professions, all conducted in Spanish. This position plays a key role in supporting and expanding the department’s Spanish Media and Spanish for the Professions initiatives, as well as its increasingly interdisciplinary curriculum.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 24 credits per academic year (equivalent to 12 credits in the Fall and 12 credits in the Spring). Course equivalencies may be applied to reduce teaching load when carrying out equivalent teaching responsibilities such as formal student mentoring, curriculum development, program assessment, program coordination, or other approved instructional activities.
  • Engage actively in student recruitment for the Spanish program, including establishing strong links with the local school districts and media outlets, participation in university recruitment events, and collaboration on promotional efforts
  • Develop curriculum that will strengthen Spanish tracks, including but not limited to the Media and Spanish for the Professions tracks
  • Collaborate with department faculty, Reynolds School of Journalism faculty, and other campus partners to support and enhance the Spanish program
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students

Required Qualifications

  • M.A. in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, or related field for Lecturer
  • PhD. in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, or related field for Teaching Assistant Professor
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching Spanish at the college/university level
  • Academic or professional expertise in Spanish-language media or Spanish for the professions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching media-related content in Spanish (e.g., writing for media, digital storytelling, media literacy) or courses in Spanish for the professions (e.g., business, medical, translation)
  • Ability to work across a range of media platforms (audio, visual, digital, publicity, social media, etc.)
  • Professional experience in Spanish-language industries, journalism, or public relations.
  • Ability to articulate and implement strategies for student recruitment and community outreach
