The Department of Romance Languages at the University of Georgia (https://www.rom.uga.edu) invites applications for two full-time Lecturer positions in Spanish, to begin August 1, 2026. These are non-tenure-track positions, nine-month faculty appointments with the possibility of renewal and promotion within the Lecturer track, with orientation activities and teaching duties starting on August 1, 2026. We are looking for candidates with expertise teaching (or clear capacity to teach) courses in contemporary Peninsular or Latinx Literature and Cultures and interest in teaching a wide variety of language courses. Teaching load is 4 courses per semester (8 courses per academic year).
This position involves teaching language, literature, and culture courses at the undergraduate level, and supporting students in the Spanish and Romance Languages B.A. programs. The successful candidate will teach four courses per semester. Responsibilities also include departmental service and participation in recruitment for our programs, which include majors, minors, and study-abroad opportunities. Collaboration across the university and the ability to foster collegial, supportive working relationships are essential.
Anticipated Start Date: 08/01/2026
- Ph.D. in Spanish or a closely related field, conferred by the start date.
- Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English is required.
- Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States
- 1 year of experience teaching courses in contemporary Peninsular Literature or Latinx Literature and Cultures.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Strong record of language teaching, demonstrate excellence in teaching, and possess the interpersonal skills and collegiality necessary to sustain a strong Spanish program at an R1 institution.
- Demonstrated expertise in teaching at the university level.
- Ability and willingness to teach all levels of Spanish language and large classes, with demonstrated effective strategies for student engagement.
- Evidence of innovative pedagogical approaches
- Evidence of native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English
- Versatile teacher with multidisciplinary interests
- Interest in outreach and student recruitment
- Interest in program-building (including study abroad, course development, etc.)
- Ability to mentor students at undergraduate level
