The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures provides the Massie Visiting professors with logistical support, housing, health insurance, as well as travel funds, and a standard salary (of approximately $60,000) for the semester of their appointment at Washington University.
The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at Washington University in St. Louis invites applications for the Felice Massie Distinguished Visiting Professorship of Spanish (one-semester visiting appointment). The appointment for AY 26-27 is expected to begin on January 1, 2027, for the Spring 2027 semester.
Main responsibilities during the semester of residence include teaching one (1) literature and culture course for the Spring 27 semester in the Spanish section of the department. The Felice Massie Distinguished Visiting professors in RLL are also required to present their work publicly (in English) in one public lecture, and are encouraged to participate in the intellectual life of the department during their appointment.
Candidates must have native proficiency in Spanish, as well as demonstrating excellence as a writer in Spanish (including poetry, fiction, and non-fiction)—the ideal candidate would also have a Master’s degree or PhD in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, or a related field, as well as previous college-level teaching experience.
