The Marywood University Department of English and Foreign Languages seeks an Assistant Professor of Practice of Spanish position beginning August 2026.
Responsibilities:
- teaching eight undergraduate language and culture courses in Spanish each year (4-4 load), with primary focus on the development of students
- conversational, reading, writing, analytical skills, and cultural competency
- Student advisement and participation in university, professional, and community service is expected
The Department offers majors in Spanish and Spanish/Secondary Education, as well as minors in Spanish for Professionals and Latino Studies. We also partner with the School of Business and Global Innovation to offer an International Business major and with the Nutrition Department to offer a Spanish track for Nutrition majors.
Required:
- Ph.D. in Spanish with emphasis in Latino Studies, Latin American Studies, or a closely related field
- Applicants should have Ph.D. in hand by June 1, 2026
- Applicant should be able to present evidence of experience teaching undergraduate students.
Preferred:
- The ideal candidate would also have experience in community outreach and/or service learning
- The ability to teach undergraduate French and/or Italian through the intermediate level would also be welcome
- Familiarity and willingness to contribute to Marywood University’s mission
