The School of International Letters & Cultures (SILC) at Arizona State University invites applications for the role of Online Spanish Program Coordinator at the rank of Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor. We seek a dynamic expert in Applied Linguistics with specific expertise in online curriculum design/teaching and program coordination.

The successful candidate will provide leadership in coordinating the online Spanish programs, including administrative and curriculum development responsibilities, and supporting the Spanish program’s expanding asynchronous offerings, such as the MA in Spanish Online. The candidate will also be expected to teach lower and upper-division Spanish courses at all levels (elementary through advanced and master’s level) across in-person, hybrid, and asynchronous modalities; hold office hours; and collaborate closely with the Director of Spanish Second Language Acquisition as a member of the coordination team.

This is an in-person, full-time, benefits-eligible appointment made on an academic year basis (August – May). A typical full-time course load is four courses per academic semester but may be adjusted due to program coordination. Subsequent annual renewal is possible contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, the needs of the university, and sufficient enrollment in assigned courses.

Anticipated start date is August 16, 2026, for the academic year 2026-2027.

Essential Functions:
The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Teach SILC courses at various levels (elementary through advanced and master’s level) in various modalities (in-person, hybrid, or online). A typical load is 4 courses per semester.
  • Assist the Director of Spanish Second Language Acquisition to prepare course syllabi, lectures, class materials, and class assignments in Second Language courses.
  • Articulate and evaluate course quality in the online Spanish program (literature/linguistics) as part of a larger team of content experts,
  • Use Canvas and other digital tools for assessment of student work.
  • Maintain regular availability to students, including office hours.
  • Assist with training faculty and graduate teaching assistants in the online space.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics/Second Language Acquisition/World Language Education or related field at the time of hire.
  • Advanced proficiency in both Spanish and English.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness of post-secondary teaching in various modalities (online, face-to-face, hybrid).
  • Experience in curriculum and/or program development. 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Research focus or interest in Applied Linguistics, Language for Specific Purposes, teaching methodologies, CALL, Intercultural Competence or related area.
  • Knowledge of the ACTFL proficiency scale for world languages and its application in language programs.
  • Experience in experiential learning, project-based learning, career readiness, and internships.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in appropriate technologies for language instruction including Artificial Intelligence tools. 
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in language and cultural studies advocacy and recruitment
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in TA/Faculty supervision or mentoring in Spanish Language Programs at the post-secondary level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, students and communities to advance the principles of the ASU Charter.
