At the Philological and Cultural Studies Faculty of the University of Vienna the position of a
Visiting Professor of Romance Linguistics: Hispanic Studies (full time, for the period of 01 October 2023 – 30 September 2025) is to be filled.

The position as a professor in Spanish linguistics is embedded in an attractive research environment: The Department of the University of Vienna covers a broad spectrum of Romance languages in both research and teaching: in addition to French, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian and Spanish studies, it also offers courses on Catalan, Occitan, Sardinian and various Romance-based creole languages. The focus of linguistics is phonology, morphology, syntax, language contact and variational linguistics as well as empirical methods.

For the position, we are looking for a highly visible researcher with access to an excellent international network, who publishes in renowned journals of best quality and who has experience in acquiring third-party funding. Applicants should be particularly qualified in teaching and research in the primary fields of internal linguistics, language variation and change. The position holder will be appointed to teach in particular Master's seminars and lectures in Spanish.

Requisitos 

Successful candidates should have the following qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree/PhD and post-doctoral experience at a university or other research institution.
  • Habilitation (venia docendi) in a subject field relevant to this position or an internationally accepted equivalent qualification is desirable.
  • Outstanding achievements in research, excellent publication record, international reputation.
  • Experience in designing, procuring and managing large research projects, as well as the willingness and ability to lead research groups.
  • Enthusiasm for excellent teaching, teaching experience at universities as well as the ability and willingness to teach students in all phases of their studies (bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral level), to supervise academic theses and to promoting young academic colleagues.
