The Department of Humanities is a community of researchers, teachers, students, and support staff working together on cutting edge issues in contemporary culture. Modern Languages, (Spanish, French, Italian and Translation) is an integral part of the Department and wider University with a popular joint-honours undergraduate degrees, Masters programmes and a growing, vibrant PhD community.

We have an opportunity to appoint a Lecturer on a fixed term basis (11 months), to join our department. 

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their research profile via membership of one or more of our research clusters, as well as receive research mentoring.  You will contribute to teaching in a manner that supports a research-led approach to student learning, such as a team-taught Level 2 survey module, Counter-currents in the Hispanic World, deliver Latin American topics of historical and contemporary indigenous cultures, deliver Level 1 introductory lectures on Latin American history and cultures and contribute to Spanish-language teaching at all levels.

You will undertake student assessment and examination activities, including the provision of appropriate feedback to students; supervision of students as required, providing direction, support and guidance and contribute to curriculum development activities. 

The preferred start date for the role is 01 September 2025.

Requisitos 

To be considered for this role it is essential you have a relevant good honours degree and PhD in Hispanic Studies or related topic, a strong teaching and research profile in research areas including: Indigenous cultures; Latin American Literature and/or Latin American History from 1800 onwards, experience of teaching Spanish language and cultural studies classes at university level and have native or near native level of English and Spanish.

You will have the ability to plan and organise your own workload effectively, work in a team environment and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to listen, engage and persuade, and to present complex information in an accessible way to a range of audiences.  Experience of curriculum development and student supervision would be advantageous.
