Descripción

MFL is a key subject within the St Matthew's curriculum achieving our best results last year for
GCSE subjects, with a positive progress score. We have traditionally been a French and German
school, but due to popular demand we have recently introduced Spanish to our curriculum and our intention is for Spanish to replace German over a transition period of 4 years. This brings about an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and highly skilled teacher of Spanish to drive the development and expansion of the language within the MFL department. Reporting directly to the Head of Department you will be responsible for the planning and delivery of the Spanish curriculum and the CPD of staff who teach Spanish (currently two but this will expand). All applications will be welcome, but this role would be an ideal 'stepping stone' for someone who aspires to Head of Department status.

Our MFL department comprises five teachers in a suite of classrooms. Students study MFL for two lessons a week at KS3 then 5 lessons per fortnight at KS4. The department is vibrant and forwardthinking with a good mix of established, experienced staff and teachers who are new to the profession and full of great ideas. In order to improve motivation, attainment, independence and self-efficacy we use a lexicogrammar approach underpinned by Rosenshine’s principles and implemented through the MARS EARS framework. Subject-specific CPD is of the highest quality with recent work over the last 2-3 years focussed on Gianfranco Conti's research.
