£22,540 to £24,982 per annum (plus other benefits)
Exeter College (in association with Keble College) is seeking to appoint a Stipendiary Lecturer in Spanish. This is a fixed-term role, tenable from 1 October 2026 – 31 March 2027.
The Lecturer will be required to undertake 128 ‘contact’ hours of tutorial or class teaching of undergraduates for the colleges (or, by exchange, undergraduates of other colleges) during the period of the appointment. In addition, they will be required to set and mark college examinations, and to participate fully in the undergraduate Admissions process and Access/ Outreach activities, and in the running of Spanish within the colleges.
The Lecturer must be able to teach the following papers as a minimum:
- Translation classes for first year (Prelims) and fourth year students
- Literature tutorials and seminars for the broad-based introductory first-year literature papers, Prelims III and IV, covering Hispanic literature from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century
The ability to teach the following papers would be an advantage, but is not essential:
- Tutorials and seminars for the early modern Spanish (Golden Age) literature papers VII and X and where applicable coursework or undergraduate dissertations in a relevant area
- Other papers on the Oxford syllabus, as appropriate
Candidates should submit all application materials by email to the HR Manager, vacancies@exeter.ox.ac.uk. If possible, applications should be submitted as a PDF file.
Applications must include:
- A covering letter, which should include a list of subjects on the Oxford syllabus on which candidates are currently able to give undergraduate tutorials, lectures, or classes;
- A full curriculum vitae including teaching experience and a list of publications;
- The names and contact details of two referees.
Candidates are also asked to complete a Recruitment Monitoring form, if they are willing to do so. This can be submitted via email (vacancies@exeter.ox.ac.uk).
References will only be sought for candidates who have been shortlisted for interview. There is no requirement, therefore, for referees to submit their references during the initial application stage.
The closing date for applications is 12pm noon (BST) on Friday 19 June 2026. It is the responsibility of each applicant to ensure that their application arrives before the deadline.
Applications for this post will be considered by a selection committee containing Fellows and/or lecturers of Exeter and/or Keble colleges.
It is anticipated that interviews will be held in Oxford on the morning of Friday 3 July 2026.
