The U.S. Coast Guard Academy, located in New London, Connecticut, invites applications for a Lecturer of Spanish on a part time appointment not to exceed July 30, 2022 or 54 weeks from the date of appointment. The work schedule will be 20-32 hours per week, depending on funding. 

The successful candidate will teach 2-3 sections of Spanish Language Courses, potentially as part of a multi-section, multi-instructor course each semester (Fall 21 and Spring 22). As appropriate, selectees will help develop course syllabi, assignments, readings, projects and assessments of student learning and course outcomes. Selectee will also participate in co-curricular aspects of the course as they arise (guest speakers, museum visits, working with cadet language club, etc.).


This vacancy is open to U.S. Citizens and non-citizens. Hiring restrictions may apply to certain non-U.S. Citizens.

Minimum degree requirements:
The successful candidate must have earned a Master of Arts degree in any of the following: Spanish, Spanish Language Acquisition, Spanish Language and Literature, Spanish and Cultural Studies, or a closely related field. Doctoral candidates not holding a Master’s must submit documentation with their application that degree completion will occur before entry on duty or August 1, 2021, whichever occurs earlier.

Minimum Specialized Experience:
The successful candidate must have experience teaching college Elementary or Elementary and Intermediate Spanish courses as the instructor of record (text, selection, syllabus design, exam writing, etc.).

In addition to the above minimum qualifications, preferred candidates will have experience teaching a diverse student body.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. education program.
